Like many, I was affected by several books already mentioned (most of them having to do with animals, such as "Where the Red Fern Grows", "Old Yeller", "Incredible Journey", "Big Red", "The Red Pony" etc.). Trust me, none of the ones that "move me" have anything to do with vampires or boy wizards ~
I read the following when I was much younger. I'm old now but there are certain books I cannot or will not read again a) because they hurt too much the first time and b) I'd hate to think that my "innocent" view of the world has changed since then and I wouldn't find them as heart wrenching:
"The Yearling" - M.K. Rawlings
"Black Like Me" - J.H. Griffin
"Beautiful Joe" - Marshall Saunders
"Who Has Seen the Wind" - W.O. Mitchell
I'm sure there are plenty of books written in recent years that would make me cry, but quite frankly, if I want that, I'll just read non-fiction. "Real life" is much sadder and more moving than any fiction can depict. Try "Follow the Rabbit-Proof Fence" by Doris Pilkington, for instance.
These days, if I'm reading for pure enjoyment, I prefer something more light-hearted/humourous : )
