I was in London again today, quite a nice day too. This view is along The Mall, which is the road that connects Trafalgar Square and Buckingham Palace. The royal family often travel down it, hence the Union flags.

Thanks everyone for your kind words about my last photo. ClaraSue mentioned that I was brave to marry another serviceman. I don't know about brave - maybe crazy?

My sister took part in a charity walk last weekend. I sponsored her, and also walked down to meet up with her and her team and take some photos along the way. They had to collect cards at checkpoints along the way and make up the best poker hand they could at the end. This was one of the route markers.

Edwin "Preacher" Roe was a baseball player back in the 1950's, who played for the Brooklyn Dodgers. He was known for his "spitball" pitch. He, at one time, had a supermarket at the corner of Broadway and Porter Wagoner Blvd. (named after the country singer also from the same town) named after him. He still lives in the same town my grandparents live in. The city named the roadway after him many years ago. This is one of the street signs bearing his name. He is also one of the oldest living baseball players mentioned here.

The Olympic flame arrived and was carried through Hong Kong by a series of politicians, movie stars and singers , very few actual athletes concerned with the great event . The only notable medal winner has been Lee Lai Shan(San San) the windsurfer.
So I was a little underwhelmed . Here is the flame arriving by dragon boat under the bridge on its way to Shatin Stadium, where some of the equestrian events will be held.

Today I've been sorting out and loading my re-enactment camping equipment, ready for an event at Lulworth Castle this week-end.
This is about half of the stuff I need to take with me Once set up, anything modern has to be carefully covered up while the public are about.

You can never go wrong with tree lined avenues, one of the first I ever developed myself was one and still one of my favourites. This one is in Hampstead.

Despite today's rain, several lacrosse matches were being played on the playing field at the end of my street. At least this little group of spectators had some rain gear!

As I answered the question about Japanese speakers I thought I would post a picture of my son and his wife on their wedding day.

They had two ceremonies, one in the UK and then a full Japanese one over there with everyone in traditional dress.

Yes, I like all the windows, too, satguru. Though maybe it's harder to keep your house cool/warm with them? Perhaps it would be worth it for the view.

Not sure if we will be able to do the "someone I admire" weekly theme, so I thought I would go ahead and post this photo of my hair stylist, Shaio-Hung. She came to this country from Taiwan as the young wife of a US GI. She went to college and maintained a 4.0 average in spite of the challenges of a foreign language. Then she went to beauty school and opened her own very successful salon while raising a family. She's someone I truly admire!



By the way, I got her permission to post her photo online.

This is Amber, my dad's dog. I was trying to convince her to get into her pool this weekend, but she kept looking at me like she was asking "why?". She is almost eight years old.

This puppy just hasn't learned what dignity is yet! We're looking after this one for a week while our daughter and granddaughter go on holiday:

ClaraSue I've never seen such a sad expression on a dog before. I guess he really did not want to get in that water.
