My school is absolutely crazy about them...but I've gotta say I don't think I would enjoy them. You never know though, so I'll borrow one from the library.

I have heard good things from everyone who's read them, so it can't be that bad :P

My daughter loved them, and she's a sophisticated reader.

They are about how Bella (Human) falls in love with Edward (Vampire) while other vampires try to kill Bella. Also Bella's friend Jakob (werewolf) is in love with her and tries to get her to fall in love with him instead of Edward! So if you like books with Romance, action, and comedy then they are the books for you!!!

Ok so they're kinda like the Vampire Diaries by L. J. Smith. When I get home (I'm on vacation) I'll look into picking up some copies. I loved The Vampire Diaries so I'll probably like the Twilight Series. Thanks very much.

I have recently finished the series. I absolutely loved them. I am not much for love stories but vampires have always had a certain draw for me. Two friends from work and I read them all together and then saw the movie when it came out. I was rooting for Edward and Bella the whole time.

I'm curious as to how many adults over, say, age 35-40 like these books. I'm a terrible old fogey--not so very old but very fogey!--and I will be polite and just say belief must be so suspended that I can't enjoy them. A vampire in high school?

My 16-yr.-old niece is quite intellectual and very academic. She LOVES them! She loves anime, too.

My brother, her uncle, lives in Forks and has taken me by the high school and regularly parks in "Dr. Cullen's" spot at the hospital when he's called in to translate outside regular business hours. It's been marked for tourists and is actually a service parking spot.

I liked the first book a great deal. For awhile, I actually thought I'd found a new fandom to be crazy about...but then I read the second book and the doubts began to seep in. I thought the second book was tedious in that the same scenario repeats seemingly 1000 times with no real change. I started to dislike the protagonists and that's never a good sign. I honestly can't remember the third book at all, so obviously it didn't make an impression on me. The fourth book...the much-vaunted happy end...so much sugary sweetness and unbelievable Mary Sueishness that I nearly went into sugar shock. When every ten seconds I found myself wanting to scream "Oh Bull~!" in response to the revelations as they came, I lost all serious interest. The story is one giant wish fulfillment fanfic that got published and enjoyed a wide readership.

I still haven't seen the film, but would honestly like to see it. I did like the first book.

I am mad about Twilight! I got Twilight back in September, and after 3 weeks, I got New Moon, finished it in a week. Then Eclipse and Breaking Dawn came in and I was done with Eclipse in a week and BD in a month.

But it was all worth it. I couldn't get enough and I can't wait to see the movie. It hasn't come out in Singapore yet, so it'll be a Twilight Christmas for me.

What I said before about possibly not liking them - ignore it. My friend lent me the books and I read the entire series in about 2 weeks. Today I saw the movie and it was really good. It hardly deviated from the book at all and it was very intense.

I agree Lioness about the movie. I enjoyed that so much. That is my major complaint with the last Harry Potter movie. They left so much out that was in the book. I understand that because of time contraints they have to do it. I was very happy that they didn't to that to much with this one. I am looking forward to seeing the rest of them if they decide to make them. Edmund was so hot. lol

Edward? Sorta...the first impression I got wasn't like that, but he grew on me. His voice...*swoon*
I am so glad they didn't leave things out, and I really want more.

I'm currently reading "Twilight", and love it! Usually, reading makes me sleepy, but not with Edward Cullen! It's so hard to put this book down! I am definitely buying the other three books in this series & then I'll wait patiently for book #5. Never has a book held me as captivated as "Twilight", not even "Harry Potter". I almost felt as if I were Belle, and could feel her 'desire' for Edward. I plan to see the movie, and when I do, I hope it's not as disappointing as most "books turned into movies" are. It's definitely a book worth sinking your teeth into! (Pun intended).

And it's definitely a movie worth seeing.

Yesterday I was in the shop and finally actually bought the book. I finished it again today and realised that it has a preview of Midnight Sun at the back! I'm halfway through that, and it's great so far.

I agree with jadedmisery71. The last Harry Potter movie pretty much destroyed the future of the remaining Harry Potter movies, because it just went way off base.
Twilight was almost perfect, leaving out details that are actually minor, like Jasper's ability to mess around with people's emotions. If the next three movies are like Twilight, the series will be even more popular.

I don't think I have seen anyone mention "Midnight Sun" which can be read online only. It is quite interesting as it is "Twilight" told from Edward Cullen's view. It follows "Twilight" perfectly and I'm wondering if both books were written at the same time. It's my understanding that "Midnight Sun" got accidentally put online and will probably not be published???? Would like to hear from someone else who had read it!

I haven't read Midnight Sun online, I want to wait until its release.

I, too heard that it got leaked, and that's why I'm not reading it. Meyer said on her website that the copy that got leaked was certainly not a final one.

I think eventually it will get published, I hope it will. I've read a chapter of it at the back of the Twilight I bought and it was gooood.

I am closing in on 34 years old, and have read the entire "Twilight" series. For those of you that are a little older, here is my opinion:

These books are very easy to read; sort of refreshing - no heavy or difficult to follow storylines. Meyer's writing style is simple, so I was able to read the entire series in a few short days.

The romance is a bit "fluffy" but that's to be expected, as we are dealing with a teenager who is wildly in love for the first time. It was over the top at times, and I grew slightly weary of the old... if you leave me I'll just shrivel up and die... sort of thing. Still, it made me feel somewhat nostalgic. I do not ever read romance novels, but it was tolerable.

I love vampire stories, but I felt that the vampires in this series lacked depth. I would really have liked to hear more about their experiences. Edward, a 108 year old vampire with the ability to read minds, should have been able to tell some really great stories! Certain things about these vampires were silly and shallow for me... including the fact that Edward was a virgin. (C'mon now.) And although Alice could see the future, her main interests were fashion and party planning. Let's just say that Stephenie Meyer is no Anne Rice, and leave it at that.

Overall, however, I did enjoy reading the books, and obviously I didn't dislike them enough to stop after the first one. I can only give them 2.5 out of 5 stars, but I wouldn't tell you not to read them. It's sort of like watching a made for tv movie that turned out to be halfway decent. Nothing mind shattering, but there are worse things you could have done with the time.

Try not to hate me, super-fans, it's just one old lady's opinion. If I were 20 years younger, I would probably have been in love with these book too.

yes I also read the twilight saga as an older person, My daughter introduced me to them and I read them all in a few days.
I found them refreshing and very innocent. something safe for young girls to dream about prehaps.

I personally prefer Ann Rices vampire saga and even steven kings salems lot still gives me the creeps when I read it.

My daughter though is totaly addicted and would change her name to cullen.

One thing I will say though is that Bella seems a very unlikley heroin she has terrible balance poor self esteem and maybe gives hope to the millions of girls out there who arnt perfect.

hugs

Rachel

That is a very good point Rachel, both in that Bella is an unlikely heroine and also that it is an innocent, fun thing for young girls to read (at least until it gets to the 4th book...then it doesn't get so innocent)

Ren, if you're reading this, I've just noticed that we have 2 active Twilight threads. Perhaps they could be combined?
