Careful, we might have to start charging one cent Canadian for each exclamation point!
This might enable us to purchase a new server.
That seems very pricey for it Brainy!

You have to give her credit though, setting a book in the past like that, and making it into a mega best seller, it's a marvellous thing.

A quote from her daughter whom we crossed paths with many years ago. "My mom's a writer, she writes these cave things."

Well I didn't buy the book I got it for free from my public library! I got it on Sat afternoon and as it is 6pm Tues I have finished the Whole book! All 748 pages of it and it was worth the wait! I couldn't put it down! How did you like it Brainy Blonde? Do you think she will take as long to write the next one? I hope in the last one Ayla finds her son! And that Wolf finds a mate and will live with them all! I also hope Jondalar and Ayla have more Children! Will be interested to see how you enjoyed it! Happy Reading! PF

My theory for Jean making us wait so 12 long years is that she was writing the sixth book in the series, too. I can almost guarantee that the sixth book will probably be released in about 2 or 3 years.

I'm with you about Ayla being reunited with Durc. I also hope Ayla and Jondalar have more children. I also hope Wolf finds a mate, one that won't be killed!

I loved this book, but the only thing that kind of bothered me was the fact that she way too many characters. I had to literally keep a tally on which character I read about or hadn't. But all in all, the book was fantastic!

I've read the other four books so much in the last 12 years, that I now have to buy them again, because I've destroyed them by reading them so much.

By the way, don't you just love the name of Ayla's and Jondalar's baby?! That is now my second all time favorite name! Of course you know that the first one is Ayla, now the second one is Jonayla. They are both beautiful names!

Now I'm dying for the 6th book to come out. It's been rumored that that book will be her last book in The Earth's Children Series, but I'm counting on her fans to write thousands of letters urging her to keep on with the story of Ayla and Jondalar and the Zelandonii.

By the way, what do you all think about Ayla agreeing to be trained to be a Zelandoni? I don't know if I'm going to like it, especially if it threatens Ayla's and Jondalar's mating.

Well, I'll be back!! [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin]

I loved the book! It took me two and a half days to read and it was worth the wait! I was a little annoyed by the constant replaying of all of Ayla's titles and history every single time she was introduced to someone but on the whole it was an excellent book!
I have a feeling that in the last book Auel will try and wrap up a few things like reuniting Ayla with her son and her Zeladoni training will be the focus of the book!
I sincerely hope her editor does a proper job on the last book and makes it more readable and not so repetitious and loses alot of inconsquental information that we all know by now!
I hope it doesn't take Auel another 12 years or I will be too old to read it! LOL LOL!
I will probably buy the paperback to add to my collection!
I was surprised to see the Book at the top of the New York BestSellers top ten list as I have read alot of reviews from fans of the series who were all disappointed by the book! Have you seen any reviews by other fans who have not liked the book?
It was an eye opener for me how cruel people can be to someone who has given alot of her time to write and research these books! I was shocked when I went to her web site and saw all the negative comments! Although constructive criticism is helpful some of these people are just plain nasty!
Well I am glad you enjoyed the book! It's nice to be able to compare notes with another Ayla Fan!
Happy Reading! PF

I have been away from Funtrivia for a while and am very glad to say that upon my first return I am greeted with the information that this book is FINALLY out!

I live in a secluded rural area and don't get the latest scoops until they are 'old hat' and this particular tidbit is very welcome.

Although, having read the first book when my 18 year old was just a baby, and then the subsequent novels time and time again throughout the years, I had kinda given up hope that she would complete the series. I am very glad to be wrong and am looking forward to reading the new one.

Thanks for the update! [Smile]

I don't see how Jean can wrap everything up in the last book. If she does, can you imagine how long that book would be?!

I pray she doesn't stop after the sixth book, because the story of Ayla could go on and on. Heck, she could even write books about Jonayla!

I agree that the repetition of Ayla's ties got to be a little boring, but I've already read that book four times since I've bought it. I ususally read books over just in case I missed something.

I went to Jean's website and you're right, her so-called fans are down right cruel. Jean puts a lot of hard work and research into her books, and for someone to say otherwise is heartless.

Jean is a great writer, and there was a reason this book was different than the other books. This book had to do with Ayla's acceptance in the Zelandonii, the birth of Jonayla, the birth of Gray, etc. This book was about her being accepted for who she was by a people who hated flatheads.

All in all, I loved the book. I thought the birth of Ayla's daughter was the highlight of the book, just like the birth of Durc was the highlight of Clan Of The Cave Bear.

If I get any news about her new book, I'll be sure to post it! [Big Grin]

Lisa,
Jean has said there are only going to be six books in the series! I think she is tired and wants to rest! All those years of research must have taken their toll on her on many levels!
I can see it being wrapped up in the last book. I just hope it isn't 900 pages long! LOL LOL! Not that I would mind! I would read it however long it would be!
I think she deserves a rest and hope she enjoys her retirement with her Husband and family!
Take Care PF [Smile]
