lol, I was like that for awhile, but I wasn't asked to read Suess in so long that I seem to have lost my touch.

Now I’m trying to get onto “Don Quixote.” After Morrison, it is like getting into a slow, sad song, changing the radio station and then trying to get into Busta Rhymes--it's not happening.

The Notebook by Nicholas Sparks. It really reminds me of Bridges Of Madison County--so if you liked that one, you'll enjoy this. It might be too "Sweet" for some. I'm enjoying it so far very much. [Smile]

W_W, I can recite from meomry the entire book "Witch Hazel" by Alice Sheartle--that's how many times I read it aloud. [Smile] And Seuss's The Foot Book....geez, time flies.

Hmm.. what am I reading right now? I'm reading the first volume of Fred Saberhagen's Book of the Gods: Face of Apollo and Michael Stackpole's X-Wing: Wedge's Gamble.

Both are great so far.. be expecting a few quizzes about the series..

I am now reading Ransom, by Lois Duncan, about a strange bus driver who kidnaps a certain five students. Killing Mr. Griffin was very good!

"The Lorax" has to be the quintessential Dr Seuss, I can't wait to read it to Mini Mc.

I'm re-reading "Pride and Prejudice", mostly for comfort, and finding it's even better than I remember. The last new book I read was "Dinner for Two" by Mike Gayle, readable but a bit frothy for my taste. A bit like Nick Hornby's writing would be if he wasn't such a fan of King Lear :-).
I'm also reading a biog of Elizabeth I called "Elizabeth the Great" by Elizabeth Jenkins. This, combined with reacqainting myself with Elizabeth Bennet is making me feel that if I do have a daughter in 6 weeks I'd like to call her... Elizabeth ;-). Alas, I have no chance ;-).

Right now I'm reading "The Sum of All Fears" by Tom Clancy. I can't put it down! The first few pages were very technical and I didn't think I was going to like this story, but after the first bit it became quite gripping.

The movie just came out here and I'm trying to avoid all the commercials and reviews because I don't want to know what happens until I finish the book!

Linda, I'm very well, feeling comforted already ;-). It is just such a lovely book, fantastic characters and such mischevious satire.

I used to have a wonderful tutor during my degree, a lovely big Welsh lady called Gwen Williams. She said that Juvenalian satire, as used by Swift, was like somone hitting you over the head with a hammer and saying "Did that hurt? Oh good!" Horatian satire like that of Austen is like someone sliding a very fine rapier between your ribs, jiggling it about a bit and saying "Oh I'm sorry, does that hurt?? Please forgive me, I had no idea!!"

Trouble is it's making me want to see the lovely BBC series again; couldn't QUITE see the attraction with Colin Firth but I thought he played the part very well.

I'm a science freak and very much into anything dealing with microbiology, pathology, cytology, paleontology, anthropology and astronomy! I'm currently reading the most engaging book on evolutionary theory called 'The Structure of Evoluntionary Thoery' by Stephen Jay Gould. Fascinating reading!

I am currently reading my way through the John Lescroart books, just now it is The Mercy Rule. My manager at work likes them and passed a whole stack to me, we both enjoy John Grisham so he thought I might enjoy these too, and I am.

I have been reading any book by an author named Jodi Picoult that I can find. The first one I read was called The Pact. It was a very good book about a teenage boy that was accused of killing his girlfriend. Right now I am reading Mercy and it has been just as good as I was expecting it to be after reading The Pact. I have just started The Fiery Cross by Diana Gabaldon. There will be a bit of a wait before the next one comes out so next time I post it will be something by a different author. I have a huge "to read" list but with three children, a husband and the internet I don't read as much as I should!

I just finished "The White House Diary" by Lady Bird Johnson. It was fascinating, and anybody who is interested in American history would enjoy it. Lady Bird describes every detail (or almost) of her five years in the White House, including trips abroad, her daughters' White House weddings, etc. It's even more interesting to read between the lines and see what a prim and proper middle-aged lady of the 1960s had to say about society and politics.- Debby

Debby, That sounds like a book I'd really enjoy. I am going to check on it at the library. [Smile]

Right now, I am reading A Beautiful Mind by Sylvia Nasar. It is the biography of John Nash. Sr. The movie was based on her book, and it is really a good read.

I am also reading How To Build A Time Machine by Paul Davies. He is a well-known theoretical physicist. It is very easy to read--if you enjoy this kind of book. [Smile]

lupetta, someone ought to start a thread on "Comfort Books". Mine is Tolkien's Lord Of The Rings. [Smile]

Hello all,

I just picked up a copy of Susan Vreeland's "The Passion of Artemisia." It is a novel about the life and times of the baroque artist Artemisia Gentileschi. It is not just a traditional monograph on an artist, rather it is written as a first person, fictionalized and personalized novel. I love Artemisia's paintings and story, so I think I'll enjoy it! Anyone else here read it?

-Scarlet [Cool]

(p.s. I am in the process of making a quiz on Artemisia, for anyone who'll be interested!)
