Just so you all know, said mint Oreos went into the trash the following morning. I wanted to hold on to them for 24 hours just in case they were my demise, so that the forensic team would have evidence to analyze and bring charges on the ex-husband. I almost felt as if I should have put them in a red 'Bio-Hazard' bag for safe disposal.

Deep fried oreos and funnel cakes aren't limited to the South! We see them at fairs and carnivals every summer here in western Pennsylvania. Of course, the funnel cake originated with the Pennsylvania Dutch, so that makes sense.

Funnel cakes are a real treat! Although up here in way-upstate NY they call it "Fried Dough" (that name lacks the same panache) and it's not served in the same manner as you'd find at Kennywood Park. They serve them here like french toast sticks, pre-formed - blah. I say gimme a paper plate with a whole mess stuck together and covered with powdered sugar - the way it's meant to be!

Over in Belgium they also serve them, which fits with your Pennsylvania Dutch comment. I got all excited to see them, but I have to tell you they made me sick. There they were shaped like dough balls and served in paper cones (like ice-ball cups) and they were covered with some confection but the problem was they were too big and uncooked in the center. I realized this too late...

I mostly separate the cookies and eat the insides first, depending on my mood.

Maybe Oreos don't go with hot tea and that's why they don't appeal to British people.I don't know. The only time tea is hot around me is before I add the ice to it.

I am deeply relieved, jordandog. I was going to offer you my brother, who lives in Ohio and is well-trained in emergency first aid, to travel to your home and stand by.

I have fond memories of Oreos, they were a big treat when I was a kid.
Sometimes I get in the mood for them, but now they mostly they seem like sugary lard sandwiched between compressed cardboard-dust, with a little chocolate flavoring added.
When I eat them, they must be dunked in milk.

Wanna hear something really disgusting?
My husband eats Oreos while drinking Mountain Dew.
Double-stuffed Oreos, at that!

Cinnamon those sound wonderful. Good thing they are Oreos, so no calories.

Jordandog at least you have not lost your sense of humour.

The only way to eat Oreos is with Vegemite.

It would certainly make Oreos palatable by comparision. I had a friend from Melbourne who worked for Quantas who once brought me some Vegemite. Shudder. I'll pass on both. lol

What else can be said about Oreos. You either like them or you don't. But, if you live in the USA you probably liked them as a kid even if you don't anymore. I think when the softer cookies came on the market, most of us change our allegiance.
