Looks like a beautiful day at Lake Winnipeg. I had no idea, anything was beautiful east of Alberta, (wink). Very nice photograph, thank you for showing it.

I don't do bugs, of any kind. Even if they're not eating anything (yet) Liz, that many in one place...they're up to something! Better get the RAID!

This is another shot of Grand Beach from the walkway. As you look towards the greenery on the right, that is where small trees and shrubs that protect very large sand dunes are located. It's a little hard to see but the beach goes on for several kilometers and at the other end is a camp ground. This whole area is a Provincial Park.

Great photos everyone. I am just in awe of the technical expertise some of you possess. I'm definitely going to enrol in a digital photography course next semester. DJ, your daughter is just beautiful. Liz, I love your bugs and would like to know what they are, whenever you find out. I don't mind spiders and insects at all (except cockroaches - ugh!). I love ALL the animal pictures! This is Mission San Carlos Borromeo de Carmelo in Carmel, California. It dates back to 1771. Although it has been officially designated a National Historic Landmark, it is still an active parish church.

What a timely post, Professor! I am heading to Scotland with my two boys in a couple of weeks, and one of the sights on our 'must see' list is Greyfriars Kirk and that statue of Bobby. Their bedtime story for the next couple of nights is Eleanor Atkinson's "Greyfriars Bobby", a chapter at a time, so as to finish before our departure.
mcshellsie: I love that photo of the daisies - the colours are splendid!
In fact all the recent photos are of a really high standard, and I really enjoy this thread. I'm hoping to get out and about a bit next week with my visitors, so I shall try to get a couple of shots of the local beauty spots.

Not a brilliant photo as people were in the way then he started to move out of sight but I thought the subject matter might be of interest to some members. This is a V16 Cadillac and is owned (and driven) by Ron Hickman who designed the Lotus Elan and was also the inventor of the Black and Decker Workmate. The history of this particular car is as follows (information from http://www.car-nection.com/yann/dbas_txt/V6srv30.htm.Quote:
This rare RHD survivor was owned by Russ Head; it was built for Maharajah Bhupinder Singh of Patiala1 who subsequently gave it as a gift to his friend, the Maharajah of Tikari, in India. Enthusiast, David Hayward (e-Mail address: gmhistorian@btopenworld.com) wrote in July, 2002: The r.h.d. 1930-31 Sports Phaeton # 702927 has belonged to an acquaintance of mine, Ron Hickman, on the Island of Jersey for many years. It has also been featured on a Jersey stamp. Thanks for the info, David. _____________________________________________________ 1 The story goes that the Maharaja of Patiala was snubbed by snooty British salesmen at a Rolls Royce showroom in the U.K.; he is reported to have got his own back by buying up the entire consignment of 50 vehicles on display and turning them into garbage trucks back home. An English paper printed a picture and the story, which sent company representatives scurrying to Patiala with an olive branch. It is interesting to note that the Maharajah never bought another RR in his life, nor did his children. As Capt. Amrinder Singh remarked, "He hated Rolls Royces for the pomp and snobbery attached to them". The family were great fans of American Cars.
