As I recently said, a book Douglas Adams was working on for a decade before he died was going to be released.
It came out last week in England in hardback form for about £14, I think it was.
It's called the Salmon Of Doubt, has the 10 chapters that Adams had written, plus some other Adams stories and old articles, letters..etc that Douglas Adams wrote.
I got it last saturday, and have so far found it quite entertaining. I've read all the letters and articles and one and a half of the short stories, but I'm yet to reach the book itself.
For alll of you who are die hard Adams fans like me, I suggest you get it quickly. Note: I don't know if it's out in some of the other countries yet, but seeing as it is a year since he died to the exact day, the point of bringing it out now is because of that, so it should be out soon. [Big Grin] [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Reviews please!!!

Gee, maybe I'm the only other Douglas Adams fan out here, judging by the amount of replies so far.. I'll look for it, but it hasn't gotten to Oregon yet. Thanks for the heads up!

Another fan here ... had a look around to see when it will be published here and it's next week, 2nd June. [Big Grin] But it will be in hardcver first for $45 so I'll probably wait for the softcover to happen.

This is what the macMillan website says
quote:
Description:
Hitchhiking the Galaxy one last time...
Introduced by Stephen Fry, The Salmon of Doubt & Other Writings comprises 50 pages of the late Douglas Adams' unfinished novel, The Salmon of Doubt, along with writings selected from over 3000 unpublished files stored on his computer harddrive.

This collection is the unique last word from one of the world's most successful and best-loved sci-fi writers and represents an important, fascinating and characteristically hilarious legacy.

Did it take Mr Adams ten years to forge 50 pages of original work? Perhaps he was lying on his back in some german poppy field! I hope he was anyway.

I was tempted to buy the new work in hard back here in Oz but the price tag was a little scarey. I wondered if I was buying something that reflected Douglas the way I want the memory reserved. I really wanted to leave the memory I have in tact. If you all say it's worth it I'll take the plunge. keep posting reviews please.

So long and thanks for all the fish!

Douglas Adams died way too soon---like the song(s) said 'Only the Good Die Young'. There was another great SF author who bit the big one way too soon---Tom Rainbow. Like Douglas Adams, Tom Rainbow had a truly fey sense of the absurd. Anyone who loved Douglas Adams' books should check out Tom Rainbow. I don't know how much fiction he had in print, but at the time he died he'd published several articles of 'alternate science' with Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, which were later collected in one volume.Check it out---you'll love it!
