Does anyone use this site?

http://wiki.answers.com/

It is a wiki based, user generated question-and-answer site.

If you use it, what do you think of it?

(By use it I mean actually go there to find answers, not simply use answers from the site produced by a websearch).

I sometimes use it. Not a whole lot anymore, but I sometimes do. It is a pretty cool site and it does give you accurate information and answers that your looking for.

I have actually used a few times. I like it, and in my experience the answers have been very thorough and accurate. Honestly, the only reason I don't use it a lot is because I just forget the site exists. :-)

There are too many folks here who base their responses on "what wiki says". It would be nice if more of them checked the authenticity of the information (dates, etc.). I sometimes wonder if those folks have minds of their own.

Flip comment aside, although I would never presume to speak for all, I think I can safely say that people who use search engines to increase their knowledge do have minds of their own.. and use them.

"Wikianswers" is no better than other online "answers" sites, such as Yahoo. However, it should not be identified with Wikipedia sites, many of which are excellent.

Madmags, it's not that difficult to tell whether a Wikipedia site is a good one or not. Much depends on the quality of the writing and the references given -- I find that the first two paragraphs usually let me know whether the site is worth bothering with. You will find good Wiki sites regarding historical literary, cultural issues and personalities; bad ones involving more contemporary subjects.

What we should NOT do is allow Wikianswers or Yahoo to influence answers in AFT. Original research and knowledge are preferable, along with avoiding mere copying and pasting. If you simply c&p, without doing any serious investigation, how do you know that you are genuinely helping the question poster?

Ianfranco, I should have noted in my two posts that I was responding to the previous poster dfc4385, and not to the poster of this thread. My apologies for not being clearer.

I agree with you whole heartedly about being able to assess the quality of any site within a paragraph or two. My number one choice site for information is GoogleSuggest, then I click on whatever sites listed that seem to fill my need. That will sometimes lead me to Wikipedia. It's not hard to find valid information in a short time.

I suppose I took umbrage at dfc4385's rather (to my mind) acerbic post, especially the last sentence; and wherein I took the "what wiki says" to mean Wikepedia, and I iterate that people who use search engines are using their minds.

One of my many mottos is, "When in doubt, google."

Anyone can change the answers. I post an answer then someone comes and changes it to a stupid answer.
