Mrs. Telly made the same remark about the pattern being used in quilts

. I sometimes have to draw and print the shapes that she wants to stitch into quilts. A useful purpose for a vector drawing program.
That wasn't the origin of this pattern though. It is just interesting to make the shapes and then see what could be done with them. The basic shapes can be seen below. They could have been drawn differently. For instance, the points of the triangles are hidden beneath the hexagon. I could therefore have cut the points off so that they exactly fitted the sides of the hexagon. I don't have to cut material like a quilter would though. One shape can sit on top of another when it comes to vector drawing.
There are times when it might be good to see through the shapes to a degree so that you can see what lies beneath. In the bit on the right of the picture, you can see the result of putting one complete pattern on top of another, instead of placing them side by side. Now look at the 'tower' graphic a few posts back. Can you see how that was done now? The same basic shape was used with a few segments removed. The remainder were given some transparency towards the middles so that the cubes can be seen through them.
So, same shapes put to different uses.
