The very first book I ever read from the Master of Horror would have to be my favorite as well, The Shining. It was the novel that led me into his universe of twisted tales.Alot of others come in a close second though. Such as The Stand, Misery, The Talisman and Black House (w/Straub who is also a great author) .

As for his short stories, I loved "You Know They Got A Hell Of A Band" in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. This is the one where the main characters, Mary and Clark Willington, get lost on the backroads and find themselves in a small town named Rock & Roll Heaven. I loved the idea of meeting the ghosts of Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Elvis.

Another one of his shorts that I liked very much was "The End Of The Whole Mess". It was also published in Nightmares & Dreamscapes. The story was of a man and his genius brother Bobby. Bobby found a cure for the inhumanity in man in a aquifier and had it arranged to distribute all over the world. He overlooked one important thing , that the water causes a major drop in peoples IQ's In essence, Bobby turned the whole world into idiots.

The made for TV movies that are produced from his novels are sometimes hard to stomach. But that's a discussion for another time.

Cheers to all!!!

It's been a while since I read any Stephen King but, it doesn't take me long to figure out which one is my favorite. Misery The scariest thing about it was that I could really see it happening. Especially in this day and age of celebrity obsession.

The Eyes of the Dragon. I've never read any other ones, but I'm sure the The Eyes of the Dragon would still be my favorite since I don't like horror.

My favorite, like so many others', is 'Salem's Lot.' However, I was disappointed by the 'movie.' Part of it was because I am, indeed, a kid growing up in a very technology enhanced world and am used to clear images, but also, and this will seem rather dumb, but because they made the main vampire blue! He was not supposed to be that way! It kind of ruined the movie for me.

I've never read 'The Shining,' though I watched the movie when I was eight or nine. I don't remember it except, of course, the main concept and the part towards the end when they're in the hotel and you can hear the footsteps thud... thud... thudding throughout the building. What a wonderful part!

Although I love almost every one of his books, The Stand is still my favorite. The scariest part for me is knowing the story is something that COULD happen.
On the weird but true side of things, every time I read it, I end up coughing and sneezing. With all the allergy problems I have it is explainable why I am sneezing and coughing, but it still spooks me every time.

I've read several Stephen Kings, but there are only two books that I really really liked (as in reread more than once): 'The Stand' and 'The Talisman'.

Not my favourite, but certainly the story that scared me most was 'The Raft'. Years after reading it thinking about it is enough to give me a troubled night.

I'm another one who has read them all, but I have to agree with wrenaz .. Misery wins hands down. It was also the first really good film interpretation of a SK book I've seen. The characters were portrayed just how I had imagined them, and they didn't alter the storyline a great deal... until the end.
