After an afternoon of drinking (not too much, mind you ) my father shaved my husbands head. So now he's clean shaven on top with a goatee beard in front. So far, I love it! Oh, and my husband is in his mid-50's but he'd been planning on shaving for quite a while, it was just the right time.

Sounds like that worked out just fine, ClaraSue!

I can't understand why any woman would prefer "the scruffy look." I call it the "bum in the gutter look." It's ugly and dirty.

Shaving or not shaving is a matter of personal preference, of course, for both men and women. But the argument about its not being natural is just silly. Deodorant isn't natural, shampoo isn't natural, soap isn't natural, perfume isn't natural, makeup isn't natural. . .Men do expect women to dress up for them, while they decide looking nice is "a waste of my time." It's just courtesy, fellas. There's nothing wrong with a neat beard, but scruffy is stupid.

I am not particularly bothered one way or another by the hairiness of men. However, it might look good on some men, but the stubble causes a rash in some women when they get up close and personal. Flipping sore too.

I had a beard for many years but just got fed up with it and shaved it off. I can eat Mr Whippy ice creams now without looking a mess .

I would imagine that a beard would be very hot and if I were a guy, I would probably stay clean shaven for the same reasons I cut my hair in the summer.

I like a beard on a man. I think it makes them look more manly. I like that they are different than we are. Hair where we are smooth, hard and flat where we are round and curved. Of course my father always had a beard so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

It can be quite the reverse. A full beard helps to keep the Sun off.

I'm pretty sure that that's one of the reasons that I love a beard on a man, also. My dad's had a beard for so long now that I probably wouldn't recognise him if he shaved it off.

ClaraSue,
A couple years ago a friend I have known all my life and who's had a beard since he was 18, shaved his off after 30 some years. I ran into him at a store, he grabbed my arm, I said loudly "Excuse me?!", and he said "Sandy, it's me, Jeff!" I honestly didn't recognize him.

My husband is "Bald-by-Choice" and I can't say that anyone we know now (aside from family) have ever seen my husband with hair. It's funny to see their reactions when seeing a photo of him with a full head of hair, as if he is another person altogether. He started to do it because he was in Panama at the time and paying to get a haircut twice a week felt silly to him so he started to shave it all off. I had girlfriend who flew down to visit her husband and when she returned she warned me how different he looked and I must admit it took some getting used to. Now I wouldn't know him any other way, even our son doesn't know him with hair! If it wasn't for the military I can't help but wonder what he'd look like today with hair now that he's got salt in his pepper.

Personally I like a 5 O'Clock shadow on a man, seems sexy to me, but not a full-out beard and moustache.

I love it when my husband has facial hair.. He keeps it clean though. Not too scruffy, just right!

As for hair, my husband had grew his hair long for 3 years then shaved it off this year... I like his head either way....

Seeing as the majority of my friends are only just starting to grow beards, I'm not very knowledgable on the topic, but I like a man both clean shaven and with a little fuzz. If the hairs start getting longer than maybe half a centimetre then I consider that a bit too long. Full grown beards just don't do it for me.

Edited to correct rather odd typo

I don't like facial hair on men, they look so clumsy with this.

Nah, it dispirses heat pretty well. It does help retain warmth in the winter, though, which is nice.

And as far as ladies not shaving their legs, etc: any man who worries about this needs more to do. I've known very attractive women who went au natural in this way - any fellow who'd find a lady unattractive because of some wispy body hair may want to reexamine his orientation.

Bless you, Stu! One more thing to add to the already long list of why you are such a good guy.
