"Since receding hairlines and flat-out baldness are very sexy if sported with confidence, the compensatory facial hair isn't necessary, in my opinion."
Is this true? Women like receding hairlines? Has my angst about one day losing my hair like my dad been a total waste of time? Do tell! Please, lay this one on me, big time!

Bassman, many women are attracted to bald men as it is a sign of high levels of testosterone. Simply having hair plugs or wearing a rug makes you look balding (which is neither here nor there to me) and insecure about balding (which is a real turn-off).
I prefer my men with no facial hair, but I think that has more to do with the fact that the positive male role models in my life did not have facial hair, and a very negative role model did. For me, I think this is a 'nurture' rather than a 'nature' thingy.
I don't mind the look of some facial hair, but I am not in much of a position to try them on for look and feel, or feel against my skin (Cubby would probably frown upon this).

bass, You can lose your angst, trust me! Many of the males I have been most attracted to have not sported a full head of hair. They have also been some of the most interesting and intelligent men I have ever known. Now, I am not saying they were all 'partners' of mine, but I know a good looking man when I see one, (they have to have something in addition to the looks though) and whether women will admit it or not, we *check you out and ponder possibilities* just as much as you do!

Receding hairline? Baldness? Nope, doesn't bother me in the least and never has.

I agree - it's fine to be bald or have a receeding hairline -but no comb overs, please...

"but no comb overs, please..." Unless, of course, they are done with white athletic socks and sandals to go with ones Bermuda shorts...

It is 4:30 in the morning and I can't sleep (again) so I must thank Stu and a few others for making me laugh - the discussion has been a smashing read From a young guy, I prefer to sport some facial hair and I prefer men with facial hair as well I think that if the facial hair is well looked after then it doesn't make the man look like a bum, to me, it is indeed the opposite. Whenever I fully shave the beard (which isn't very often I must admit) I always miss having it. I stare pitifully down the sink to the hair that I so longingly desire. Though thankfully, it does still grow back! Jon

Well, well, this site surely is spectacular! Years of angst put to rest! Now, if I could just get the clever and interesting part, all will be well. LOL

Be yourself!
There's nothing worse than a man (or woman, for that matter) pretending to be something they're not.
If you want to try something interesting - do something different!
Next time you're in line to bur a car magazine, buy another one on a subject you know nothing about (I do this, but then again, I'm a dork). At least you'll have something new to talk about, and who knows what you might learn. Another suggestion is to take a class in something you've never tried before - cooking classes, or even a book club.
I'm not suggesting these as a way to 'pick up', only to expand your horizons. If you are confident, you will be interesting. Women pick up on that kind of thing - we call it 'Womens intuition'.

Back to facial hair (and I apologise, because I think I started this tangent to begin with ....):
For me, anything neat and tidy is good. The hair on top of the head is irrelevant, unless of course there is the dreaded 'Donald' - the comb-over!
Combovers suggest insecurity, and insecurity reeks of weakness. When you cut us down to our base levels, women seem to want confident men, because confidence = strength. Strength = good hunting skills, therefore making the male a good provider.
It doesn't matter how you wear your facial hair - just wear it with confidence (and no Old Spice or Brut 33)!

Sorry, theresam, no offence for people who like it - the peppery-scent makes me sneeze!
My sister used to wear Brut33 - long story there!

It's funny how we associate smells with certain things. I loooove the smell of a metal shop - there is something about raw metal, grease and oxy-acetaline that works for me.
My grandfather used to smell of hair oil - I love the smell of that stuff, but try asking your other half to wear it! Cubby looked at me like I'm grown another head. Now, he wears Joop! or Armani Code after he shaves, and I like those too.
