Finally, the weather is behaving enough to let me post! Sorry for not replying sooner about dragon boating, but ren is right about it being a knackering sport! It is a lot of fun, too, and I'm hoping to keep it up. The boats are quite long, and just wide enough for two people to sit side by side, each paddling on one side only. The boat I was in the other day had twelve paddlers, but the one that went out ahead of us had eighteen! I'll try to get a photo of one of the other boats to post here. I'm only doing it for recreation, but some of the club have just returned from the World Championships in Malaysia, where they did very well indeed.

Ah, yes, a photo. This is the little windmill and garden just outside my mother's patio door, taken when I visited her a few days ago. I've shown the windmill before, but the garden has expanded since then.

This would have been a good entry for the recent theme thread 'Reflections', but I only took the photo yesterday evening.
It's one of the lock keeper's cottages on the nearby Lea Navigation canal.

How lovely that is, Picqero.
This jolly little plane was pulling gliders at the Cotswold Gliding Club at Aston Down near Stroud.

Piquero, that picture is beautiful.

Professor, where was that picture taken? It looks like something I saw on Molokai (Hawaii).

I promised Ren a pic of my house. Here is the side and front. It's hard to get a picture as the oak branches are in the way. It was built circa 1825.

Wow bhs, I didn't realise that was actually your own house- I am impressed!

Here is one that is definitely not my house, a very good example of 1960s/70s design by Ham Common in Surrey.

I went for a walk this afternoon intending to do a bit of shopping at the local plaza...and ended up watching dirt bike races instead! How much fun is that?

Liz, I just love flat track dirt bikes. My hubby used to race those before he switched to woods racing. I wish he would go back, flat track is so much more exciting.

This bronze statue/fountain depicts a bunch of gumnuts (the hard seed covering of a eucalyptus flower); it is the emblem of the shire where I live. This fountain is located close to my house and on most Saturday nights, some drunken fool will put detergent in it, resulting in a sea of foam all over the road. You can see the foam at the bottom of the fountain.

What a great selection of photos. Bhs, your house looks gorgeous!

I went for a walk in the forest beside our home this afternoon, just myself, the boys and the dog. The kids had great fun building a dam in the little brook, and we had the whole place to ourselves. Bliss!

Looks more like a big money pit to me

Great definition in those teasels!

These colourful tailfins are on planes at our local airfield, which has the curious name of Panshanger.

Thats lovely Gary. Can remember them shooting a lot of the scenes from the film Battle of Britain at Panshanger aerodrome - nice to see it hasnt been turned over to housing yet.

Thanks, but my name isn't Gary - that's assuming you were addressing me
There's a great little restaurant at Panshanger, specialising in genuine home made food.
Good point about the housing; wonder how long it will survive?

This is the usual view of Perth that most tourists are familiar with. Taken from Mount Eliza in Kings Park. I live way back in those hills that you can barely see in the background!

I meant that Prof (Gary's)photo of the Highlands was great and then went on to comment on Panshanger! Sorry for the confusion. Learned to ride at Panshanger riding stables which is on the back road to Hertford. We bought our very first house on the Panshanger estate way back in 1967.
