Has anyone seen "The Other Boleyn Girl," starring Natalie Portman and Scarlett Johanssen? I thought the cinematography was fine. However, the movie took many liberties with what is known of the time period and events. What disgusted me, however, was the scene with Anne and her brother (near the end of the movie), when she has lost her second baby.

Any opinions on the movie or any aspect of its historical representation?

I thought Eric Bana's performance was good and I enjoyed the costumes and sets.

Otherwise, it was a dismal film.

Here's a quote from a review I wrote of this film:

"The life and times of Henry VIII were tumultuous, dramatic, and populated by interesting characters. It should have been an easy task to write a reasonably entertaining script about this era. Unfortunately, a fifth grader's plagiarized essay on this period would a lot easier to get through than this extremely boring and disappointing film adaptation."

Its old I know but I loved this film. One of my favorites of that year. Portman was fantastic. Ken

I thought that all the actors were fine, but that they had made too much out of the rivalry between the two sisters, and didn't spend nearly enough time on developing the King's character and the motivation for his behaviour, especially towards the end of the film. He came across as rather one-dimensional for me, and I don't think Bana was at fault as he wasn't given all that much to work with. I agree that Portman and Johanssen were fantastic

Oh, I just noticed that this thread started over a year ago - I hadn't noticed the "2008" in Paige's post, and I did wonder why she was asking about such an old film...
