At least the slate has been wiped clean. This player is not in the top 200 players, hall of fame, or anywhere for that matter.

Aha! So he DID strike at my quizzes, too!

Maybe he has some illegal program that is designed to play quizzes constantly over and over, so he played nearly every quiz, perhaps 50 to 100 a minute, due to this illegal program and all he has to do is press a button and go take a nap, and he earns millions of points... Maybe he is doing this on other sites, too, with the same program! Maybe it also constantly plays games upon games upon games over and over again and he never loses lives, and he gets ridiculous scores on other sites, too!

Does such a bizarre program exist?

You really have to wonder why someone would go to all that trouble though... You don't 'win' anything here for getting so many great scores.

Yeah, cheating to get points that have no real world value, and for which the only FT value is in bragging rights - what an odd way to spend your time.

{Disclaimer: I am not a hacker} I think, agony, that it would be the intellectual puzzle that motivated something like this. Not of the quizzes (What an Odd person! ;-)) but of 'breaking' the system. We, and perhaps no-one, were not its target audience....

Why, Salami, you weren't thinking of trying to find such a program, now were you?

I think I figured out who the person is. They took a couple of my quizzes on the 13th I think it said, and got all of them right, I clicked on the name and the account was gone.
They took my quiz on The Fray and 2007 Movies I think was the other one I saw their name on.

I feel honoured to know that such a person took the time out of their day to take ALL of my quizzes and get them all correct - sarcasm is a great tool, yes?

The fool only got 5/10 on one of my easier quizzes! However, he aced one of my 'Impossible' ones.

lol, Ozzz. Maybe he hadn't quite learned the technique of acing all the quizzes at that point? lol. I still think such a program exists, but I am not thinking of using it, pagiedamon! Sure it would be nice to have a greater % than 40, and 80,000 quizzes played instead of 10,000, but I will let it accumulate slowly, with time, I should eventually make it to 80,000. Should I stay gold long enough, that is. lol. Of course, my rating won't go up. I am on a quest to play as many quizzes as I can in every category. So far I am ALMOST done with animals.

Anyone found using such a program not only will lose their account regardless of whether they are a gold member or not (and this person was a gold member), they could also face legal action.

Oh, no, I completely understand, Sue. I would NEVER use such a thing. I do think such a program exists, and that is why things like this happen.

So, let's see if I have this straight: not only did someone register to be a player, but he, or she, paid money to be a gold member? I suppose I am assuming that the person was fresh to funtrivia, and not a long-time player who went rogue.

Whichever way, I agree with MotherGoose (posts passim): There's nothing here to be admired, just someone who go her, or his, kicks out of attacking something that so many of us get pleasure from.

Hmm "When Gold Members Go Rogue" - there's bound to be a TV documentary in there for someone to make.

Ooh, a quiz.... I may have to try that if you don't mind... lol. I have no idea how in the world you would even begin to construct such a quiz!

There are 2-3 ways of writing such a program. It would not be a huge effort, but as some of the previous posters said, Why bother?

Also, pretty easy to catch such a bot with a few basic checks which I am sure Terry has in place.

I hope there is legal action and we all hear about it if there is. Having been up half the night twice with previous vandals here and seeing the destruction they can cause will be delighted to see one actually tracked down and held up for all to see. People who mess around with other's sites don't care about the amount of work that's gone into them and is no different from breaking into a house. If new toerags come along and see what happened to the last one who did it they'll be very unlikely to target us any more.

I totally agree satguru, legal action should be pursued. If he (or she) hacked into this site, all of our e-mail addresses could have been retained for future identity theft, and personal banking information. Funtrivia.com seems to take precautions to keep these miserable pest away, but it is like a virus protector; hackers are always looking for new ways in that your current spy ware can not detect. If this site was hacked, hacking an e-mail address would be like a walk in the park for the hacker. I hope legal action is taken soon.

I have a new theory. lol.

There were 20 people all logged in on different computers, each playing a single category... They specialize in those categories, and can get points fast. That way they get points fast, but to the 20th power! lol.

I'm afraid it's just part and parcel of the internet. I belong to a couple of other sites and on both there are people with ridiculous wins - like 6000 wins to 2 losses on one site and on the other, in which you have to beat the computer (pretty impossible), 3000 to 0. If they were that clever, they'd be millionaires. They get a thrill out of seeing their name 'first', by whatever means.

Not just the Internet! In my local, there was a quiz/game machine, which I used to play. One woman used to desperately spend pounds to beat my scores. Then a new one arrived, so I played every single game and quiz on it, and then thoroughly enjoyed watching her spend a fortune! (I don't know what her problem was - she was quite brilliant on some of the games that I didn't normally play..)
