It will probably be moved to Computers & Technology, but I think this is the thread you want.

Also, Firefox contains a spell-checker so you don't need an extra program. Although I've found it doesn't spell-check the answer fields when creating quizzes, you can copy/paste into the interesting info or question fields to see if there are mis-spellings.

Boy I'm enjoying the Firefox difference. I found more errors in players' submissions using it.

I love Firefox, I'd never go back to Internet Explorer. When I'm using a public computer, I always find myself cursing it before I'm through.

I wish spellcheckers had a better vocabulary, though - they so often flag perfectly good but unusual words. They also don't know how to spell words like "colour" and "favour" properly

I still have IE on my computer but I'm using only Firefox now. It has doubled my speed.

The Firefox spellchecker must be adjustable to British spelling though.

Oh, I'm sure it is, I just don't know how to do it. And of course, then it would catch all those places where I use American spelling....

What we need is a Canadian spellchecker - if someone, somewhere in the world, spells it this way, it's correct!

For the Firefox spellchecker, you can right click on a misspelled word and it will give you options. At the bottom of that menu, it will say 'Languages' with an arrow. If you get the sub-menu, it will give you the option to add a dictionary. That will take you to a site where you can download another 'dictionary' for it. You can then pick the language, or version of English that you want to add.

For English, your options are: US, British, Canadian, South African, and Australian.

The new Google Chrome browser has an inbuilt spellcheck and it is good!

I've been using my laptop lately because my desktop has about had it. I didn't have Firefox on my laptop, so I downloaded the Google toolbar for IE to get the spell checker. The problem was that, somehow, with the Google toolbar came some kind of 'redirecting program' that would redirect me to another site anytime I tried to click on a website from the Google search. So, today, I went on and downloaded Firefox, which I like better than IE anyway, and I haven't had the problem anymore. I don't think it was the same version that you are talking about, though.

The spell checker in the Google toolbar is good. It isn't automatic, though, so you have to turn it on and off, but it will check the answer boxes. The trick is to find a spell checker that you like and are comfortable with!

Tiffany, the Google spellchecker is the one I use, it is very good I find. As you say, it checks the answer boxes and have various languages already built into the spellchecker such that you needn't download them.

I agree with jonnowales. Actually, I just found it and used it to go over a quiz I just submitted and a quiz I just created.

I've just dumped IE in favour of Firefox too, so thanks to you guys for explaining about the spellchecker and dictionaries. I've just downloaded a few dictionaries, and they are remarkably good.

I found a free spell checker for forums called IESPELL, it is free and you will find it if you google it. When installed just right click on you post before final posting and it checks your piece and corrects , if needed. it allows the changing of dictionaries to suit US or UK, it also has variou options.
