Lovely fall colors and scenes!

We visited the Queen Mary yesterday in Long Beach. Here she is (now converted to a hotel and museum). You can just see the black body of an old Russian submarine (the Scorpion) down in front.

Beautiful fall color photos! Djsgal, it's been years since I've toured the Queen Mary. I remember being impressed by her size and the size of the chains on deck. SOTHC, is that one of the lions at the MGM Grand?

More fall colors! This is the KOA campground where we stayed in South Carolina this past week.

Copago, that photo is awesome, because of its starkness- what are the plants in the picture?

They grow up out of some kind of cactus, Ozzz. I'll take a pic after school and show you what they are. Different spot but they're they same breed as the ones in that really orange sunset photo I posted last week.

I put this one in as if anyone wants to see suburban London and its fringes, you'd almost never see Carpenders Park or similar places if you came here or looked around for images. These suburbs are often taken for granted when living here and overlooked by visitors, but for many mean a lot more than the tourist sights as they are home which counts more than anything else.

So a prairie dog and a gopher are the same thing, yes?

No, they are two different animals, Copago. Gophers are actually smaller than prairie dogs and are from the family Geomyidea, while prairie dogs are a type of marmot.

Clear as mud then! They remind me of those meerkats from Africa .. wonder if they're related there somewhere.

Here's what those cactus thingies look like in broad daylight. Those tall things grow so quickly we don't even notice them and then the next thing a gust of wind will hit and they'll fall. "It looks like Sisal." Could well be right SOTHC - I have no diea what sisal is.

I had some of those in my yard when I lived in California. They are called Century Plants. It takes a very long time (years and years) before the plant sends up that stalk.

Oh cool, thanks for the info, bhs! You do learn something every day Just googled them and it sure looks like the same thing - and pretty much related to sisal too so I found out on my travels.

I have often seen people fishing from the footbridge, or the riverbanks just below it, but until today hadn't seen anyone catch anything. Never realised that it was anything quite so big that they were after...

The Grand old lady of the Sea that retires next month. Queen Elizabeth 11 . For people who like to see large sea liners then you should visit Invergordon in the Summer a small town just north if Inverness. This year over 30 ships have visited from all over.

The bad thing about all those beautiful autumn leaves is that someone has to rake them up...

I am loving all the fall colors, we haven't had our season start yet here. So many great pics from you all!

Shelley, that boat has my mouth watering and reminds me of living out East when the morning runs came in.

For the record, we have lots of gophers here in Ohio, but no prairie dogs. Gophers are very small, only weigh up to 1/2 a pound, while prairie dogs weigh up to 3 pounds. If I start seeing prairie dogs here, I am in big trouble! Gophers will take over a backyard or golf course and destroy it, literally, in weeks. They are not the same animal.

Oh, what cuties.

Liz, that is one BIG fish! What kind, do you suppose?

Ships and boats seem to be a trend the last couple of days - here's another shot from one of the upper decks of the Queen Mary - the Carnival cruise ship Paradise was docked at the end, as you can see.

While I haven't posted in here lately, I need to say that I look almost daily - and that the photographic adventures/glimpses you all offer are, in a word, exceptional. I totally enjoy the *travels* !

That said, here's another of those lovely autumn views from my porch. And, this year, I will be especially savoring 'em, too . The *view* will belong to someone else next Fall. But I have a hunch I'll be finding my way over here just to have a look more than once. Just to "borrow" it occasionally.

That is a nice view, Gats.

I know this is a bad photo of a bad subject but it will make you go "wow!" tomorrow when I post the after shot! Here is the old kitchen which has recently been done over in a big way. (plus in this photo we had started clearing it out so it was messier than usual) See that doorway through the main doorway? Keep your eye on it, that'll be the only thing that is the same.

Three lovely waterfalls in a row! And I'm sorry but I must break the trend.

Pygmy goats out at the ranch, Tiki, Buckaroo, and one of the newest, Molly.
