Does anyone have any experience of this browser? I am toying with switching to it from Firefox. Is Safari as fast as they claim? Are there any known issues?

I'm known as technoclot at work, so all I can say is that on my ancient mac, we have both browsers. Sometimes Firefox plays up, I can access sites but can't post, so then I swap to safari that doesn't seem to have that problem. My daughter is the computer wizz and she prefers Firefox.

I have tried Safari. It works well enough but I found it a bit lacking compared to Firefox. I missed a few of my favourite extensions and customisations. The general look of the browser regarding toolbars and appearance is important to me. I don't particularly like the appearance of Safari. But still, this is only personal opinion. I'm sure there are plenty of people who wouldn't use any other browser.

Regarding speed, Safari could be faster but no matter how fast the browser, speed depends on other factors too. These might be your Internet connection speed, time of day, volume of traffic on the Internet backbone and local data traffic.

Give it a try is the best thing to do. It doesn't hurt to have a few browsers installed. One doesn't affect another and you can always uninstall it if you decide it isn't for you.

My husband uses both - he switches from Firefox to Safari sometimes as some things seem to not work in Firefox whereas they work well in Safari. (I think he mentioned that in reference to sites like Youtube.)

Not sure why, but he's been using Apples for years and is a website designer, so I trust him.

Thanks for the input. I'll give it a try in a day or so when I've got time to tinker with it.

There's always Opera, RMG, and Chrome from Google. I have all installed and use them depending on how well the Internet throughput seems to be. Sometimes I find that Explorer seems to get bogged down say visiting FTQ but by switching to Chrome or FireFox I can usually bypass the speed issues and at other times the reverse is true. They don't generally interfere with one another these days but it can be useful not to enable the switch that IEx and FireFox both have to try to get you to use it as the default.

I do find that for business transactions IEX scores over all the others which is a reflection of those businesses putting their money where the market leader is.
