Historically it's always been considered London and can't think of any reason why not, even if I didn't live there. And how many cities here have closed quiz categories? (I don't know actually besides one, London, but is another clue of its importance).

I love London - I'd vote for it!
I don't have a problem with Geneva either, or New York.
I just know that it wouldn't be Sydney.

Mousehole , in Cornwall. Well no one said it had to be an existing capital city did they? Actually , why not Hong Kong? It is very important financially, and the shopping is still good.

Would go for Rome as was civilised far before us ancient Brits. Bit warmer than London too.
As for centre of power - think that may well be Beijing these days.

What ever country is chosen would always be the envy of other nations. I would build a new city on a floating island, so each maritime nation could host the capital city in turn.

Jerusalem of course. Historically considered the center of the world.

What about an underground station in Antarctica, manned by one person from every country...? Or may be even a space station???

Oh Katie don't get me started. My Grandfather was a Methodist Minister in Cornwall (in another wonderful place called Mylor), and knew Mousehole well.He could remember when you could only get to it from the sea, or down a slippery path in the cliff. He always said the story of Tom Bawcock was true. It is true that the gap in the entry to the harbour was really small. Maybe they enlarged it now... Its a truly gorgeous part of the world. Also I really loved the Stargazy Pie that my Gran made. It sounds gross but the head and tail only stick out the top for decoration! She also made the Cornish cream at the back of the stove, that was served at every meal. Yum!

"Historically it's always been considered London" I am going to exhibit my complete and utter ignorance here. I have never heard or read anything saying London was/is considered the capital of the Earth. Can someone please help me out here? If this is the case, I feel I have been living in complete darkness my entire adult life!

satguru,
I have never heard of London being historically considered as our planet's capital.
I lived in London, love the city, but don't know of any historian who would back up your claim. Not trying to be argumentative, but if you want to bring History into this topic, then one must look at cities such as Rome, Athens, Jerusalem, Istanbul, Nanjing, etc. Ancient cities with rich cultures that have not (yet) been relegated to the ash heap of history.
So many wonderful spots from which to choose. I'm going with Whoville.

Being the capital of Earth implies having a lot of inhabitants, increased pollution, environmental problems and a lot of other negative consequences, so choose New York. It can't be worse than itis now.

The capital of Earth would be wherever the ruler of the world would live, and since we don't have a ruler of the world, then there really isn't a capital of Earth. However, I'd happily apply for ruler of the world.
