I usually use Firefox, and always use it when editing. Today I was in the edit screen of a quiz, and was making a small change. I *intended* to make a line for a blank (______) so was holding down the shift key while repeatedly hitting another key. However, the key I repeatedly hit was not the one I meant to. All of a sudden, the print on the screen went really really tiny. Page size changed a bit too, but not as much - now I have large fields of blue, empty space, with print so small it can't be read, off to the left. I tried to undo, but all it did was undo the printed bit - that is, it was working as if the size had not changed and everything was normal. I closed that window, hoping that things would just come back as before when I opened a new window, but it didn't. Other websites are fine, but FT in Firefox is now teeny tiny. I am now writing this in IE, which is working just as usual.

I *think* the key I hit repeatedly is one of the ones to the right of the space bar - I wasn't really paying all that much attention to what I was doing, as I was thinking about how to explain to the quiz writer the change I wanted him to make. I don't know exactly what I was doing down there, as the key I *should* have been hitting was either the backspace or the _ , but my memory is telling me it was a lower, righthand key. I'm sorry this is such a lame expalnatin - I realize I don't have the words to explain what happened and just hope one of you understands what I'm getting at. I really, really hope I haven't messed up FT on Firefox for good - I use it for hours every day.

Have you re-booted or tried System Restore? I find that usually sorts things out. When I had my print shrink, it was something to do with the mouse, but I've forgotten what. Not a lot of help, am I?

Rebooting didn't work, and when I tried System Restore, it said that it couldn't restore my computer to that date. I tried a couple of differnt dates, and the same thing happened. Thanks for those suggestions, though - I didn't know about System Restore before this. I bet it comes in useful.

Have you tried adjusting your *Screen Resolution*? Mine is in my Control Panel under Display Options.

That didn't seem to help, either, unless I was doing it wrong. I only need to change this one website on the one browser - everything else is the way it always was. Is there a way to target "Screen Resolution"?

Just an idea - Try to reset the page: Page view - Zoom - Reset.

That did it - I am such an idiot with computers that it is always the very simplest solution that works for me. Thanks very much!

I wasn't thinking the 'just one page', so sorry, agony. You must have had your finger on * control * (instead of shift) and the -, which causes it to zoom out. Glad it's cleared up thanks to lilyalli!

I bet that is exactly what happened. I hate it that these so-important keys are down near the shift key, which I operate on the fly with my little finger - this isn't the first time I've messed myself up just trying to capitalize something.

Something that will work as well, hold down the control key, and roll the wheel on your mouse up or down, and that will adjust the size of your text/screen.

Firefox 3.0 will remember 'per site' zoom levels. Before that, text size would reset to 100% each time the browser was closed and re-opened. Remembering zoom levels is a generally good feature in my opinion. It means you don't need to keep adjusting text size each time a favourite site is visited that uses small text. There is an extension called NoSquint' that can be used with Firefox 2.0 but version 3.0 makes installing it unnecessary.

In this case, there was a slight drawback to the zoom level not resetting when the browser is closed and re-opened, although it's not so bad once you know how to bring the zoom level back to 100% (or preferred size) again.

In the 'View > Zoom' settings, there is an option to zoom text only. The default zoom increases/decreases the size of text and images. You might want to consider ticking the 'Zoom Text Only' option. Zooming images can make photos and page graphics look too big and possibly a bit blurred.
