I guess I'll add my name.

My Collie's name is Dakota, and on his AKC registration papers he's called Dakota North and South. As you can see, I just borrowed the first two parts of his name.

My real name is Lorna but I thought that was pretty boring. The only thing was I could'nt really think of anything good to use at the time so I thought about thingamabob, the word people often use to describe something they can't remember! Except I only went and mispelled it and out came thingmabob!!

Mine comes from "The Naming of Cats" in T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats". I'm a major cat lover and wanted something no one else has used. Seems to be true so far.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there's the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George of Bill Bailey---
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter---
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that's peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum---
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover---
But THE CAT HMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

I like the stars and I like Vincent Van Gogh's painting entitled Starry Night, so it only seemed natural to call myself starry_night! I also sometimes use globuggie. When I was signing up for a site (one of my first ones), I tried glowbug - taken. Globug - taken. I didn't want to add numbers at the end, so I tried globuggie, and it worked!

I guess I'll add myself to this list as well. I think my screen name is pretty obvious, but I'll explain it anyway. I can do it all in one sentence: I'm nuts about the '31 version of Dracula.

There ya go! I also went by trishy81 in here, until it was made possible to change our screen names. I decided to make it the same as it is in quizzyland, so here it is.

starry_night, my mousepad is Van Gogh's famous work---starry, starry night.....

I thought I posted about this before - damn? Is it my head...

Anyways I am called ' ace ' by friends (more to do with my luck in minor card play; some people call it gambling).

Sodium because of a freakish accident I had (in 8th standard) involving sodium - which nearly cost a few of us our eyes. Thankfully everyone's safe now and we can laugh about it now!
In a nutshell : I stole sodium from the chemistry lab, my friends arranged the bucket of water (those idiots poured only around half a litre of water)
taking inspiration from the chemistry class experiments, we tried to repeat it ; the only difference is it was a HUGE lump of sodium that we put into the water.
BOOM
End of story

P.s
This Coincedence (?)was noticed only after the above incident took place - my real name is N.Arun ( the initials taken=Na=chemical symbol of sodium)

My screen name stands for Alan-SouthAust, but some other good ones have arisen, being ASA for films(able to make snap decisions) and ASA for aspirin( a slow working dope) also ASA being A Silly Acroynm, and someone thought I wanted things As Soon As Possible, but had lost the P when I went to the bathroom.

Alan, did you know that ASA actually is the proper medical abbreviation for aspirin? It stands for acetyl-salicylic acid (which is the chemical name for aspirin)!

I am a member of the Sherlock Holmes Society of W. Australia. In the Society we all have alias' from the Holmes stories.
So to paraphrase Fawlty Towers, "I am the Earl of Maynooth so I just sign Maynooth".
See the story "The Adventure of the Empty House".

I use Maynooth anywhere that calls for a screen name.
cheers

This is a nice thread!! I enjoyed reading how everyone got their nicknames

I chose mine after reading "Zero Hour" by Ray Bradbury. The main character in that short story is a 7-year-old girl called Mink. And I chose Penny because I love The Beatles Song Penny Lane. That is all

Wow. Just been reading through this thread, and it looks as if most of the world is far more imaginative than me! Interesting stuff.
Well, as for myself, I have been using young and bitter as a screen handle for the past five years. It all began at university, when I was told by a tutor that I was very bitter for one so young. Shortly afterwards I had the email address, and now I have the web domain. Funny how such a small comment can stick in your mind!

My screen-name was inspired by my favourite writer, Anais Nin.
I love reading her and cannot get enough of her poetic take on life.

My name was inspired by a Meredith Brooks song, the chorus has a line in it that is "I'm a sinner, I'm a saint, I do not feel ashamed". Since I love the song I manipulated that line and came up with saintlysinner.

I originally posted on AFT as Son of iM in reply to posts by my mother iM (I never did find out why she was called that). She would do anything for a man in uniform especially those that came complete with a horse. My father is unknown as she did not keep accurate records but has narrowed it down to someone in the Household Cavalry. I miss my father who ever he is, so I decided to change my name in 'recognition' of this.

I have a pet rat (mouse) named E-Tar, and he's a mouse, but I like the word "rat" better. I have a bunch of screennames on other sites like the following:

DarkAngel17
yami_bakura10
ryou'seviltwinbrother
DNAngel
dragonknight

I can't remember the rest. ^_^_^_^_^_^_^_^

My surname is Danish, and as it's over 3 syllables so most Aussies trip over it. Add the fact that Australians seem to have a very real dislike to calling anyone by their proper names, mine was an obvious choice to change. I get 'Bertho' in professional circles and 'Birdy' with the mates. I wouldn't use 'Birdy' in forums for obvious reasons. Sometimes I wonder if anyone I know remembers my name is David...

Some examples of how aussie nicknames morph into something far from the original name:

Tudman/Captain Tugwash/Cappy
Roundtree/Roundhead/Charlie Brown/Charles.

Rugby has a different set of rules for nick-naming players. Some examples:

Jim = Lantern (not very bright, always carried)
Art = Speedbump (can't tackle to save himself)
Tim = Turnstille Tim (see above)
David = Mal (skinny bloke, short for malnutrition)

I hope it's not too late for me to explain. My name is halfbakedangi. My first name is Angikaar. Most of my friends call me Angi. So angi suited me fine. I read about the expression "half- baked" in a book (can't remember which ) and liked it so much that I used it here. My name in Quizzyland is chinky1234. Chinky because that's my pet name. 1234 because they are the first four numbers you learn as a child. I hope it's creative. Signing Off !
P.S These are absolutely true.

My screen name (harish_256) is a combination of what I like to be called (Harish), and my favourite number (256).

I chose harish_317 as my Yahoo! id, because, like I said before, I like being called Harish, and since my birthday is on the 31st of July (ie the 31st day of the 7th month), I chose 317.

Hmm...
Andy: My name
7: My favourite game is "Final Fantasy VII"
13: I'm not such a lucky person
713: Vault which contained the Philosopher's Stone

What was that again? Oh yeah! Wandering how to change my quizzyland ID (I know how to change Forums ID).

You see that I'm known as AndySeven13 here, my other ID Andy713 didn't get a verify e-mail (Don't know why).

So, some people like Sue943 call me AndySeven for some reason (nah, it's okay to call me AndySeven).

My name is Michael, and when I was a kid I was called Mickey, as was every other Michael I knew. I have green eyes. So when I became an FT member, I tried to devise a catchy name, a clever play on "Mickey". Movie nut that I am, I thought of "Mickey Blue Eyes" and just took it from there.
Love to all other green-eyed folk out there. Take care. Mickey.

Andy, you can't change your Quizzyland ID, there is no way that it can be done without just re-registering with another name but if you do that any current scores and quizzes will have your old name, they can't be changed. What you can do is change your forum name to be the same as the Quizzyland name, that wouldn't be a problem. Just apply if you want to do that and we will approve the change for you.

My screen name is a reference to the precursors of such advice columns as "Ann Landers" These "Advice to the Lovelorn" writers were known as "agony aunts" who would answer any question sent to them. Hence, agony is someone who "knows all the answers". My screen name on some other sites is "oldbag", but that was already taken when I signed up at Funtrivia.
