Oh, I have such a poor success rate with this 'resolutions' business. I always fail ... especially when I get too specific in my resolve. And then, ultimately, take a few nose-dives in the self-esteem department in the face of said failure(s). So I keep 'em vague these days. And I stopped calling them resolutions, too. Just "wish lists" . So, on my open-ended 'wish list' this year? To focus more on the future, mysterious as it always seems to be. Not be so jacked-up about the (wretched, in spots) past and not pondering the imperfect present as much as I tend to. *Tomorrow*, really, is far more exciting and mysteriously appealing than yesterday or today was, anyway.

None for me. I am the opposite of Gats and spend far too much time worrying and daydreaming about the future. "What if", "should I". For a basically impulsive person, this is a strange shift in behaviour. I shall try to live for the day but that is not really a resolution, more of a me telling me to get on with it now (not in five years time). To book that trip to Australia, to move house, to read all those books I keep buying, to declutter etc. Oh, and to allow myself a little time to think of the (good) past and not bury those years before their time because of the things that went wrong. Oh, nearly forgot, I need to lose the 7 lbs I have put on over Christmas, but this is not a resolution either, more a way of life with every new year. Asks question "Why am I eating a huge slice of Christmas cake at 11 am?" Answer, "Because it's not 2009 yet".

Yes, lilyalli , I'm the same, I aim to lose the Christmas weight from January 3rd (got to allow myself some leeway! ) Also, not to worry about things in the future until they happen, and enjoy life as much as possible. Oh yes, and my favourite resolution - spend more time on Funtrivia

New Year's resolutions? Well I hadn't really thought about that yet. There are so many things that I can improve on. For one I should stop procrastinating but I think I'll start that next year . I should really get rid of the clutter in this house but that would leave too little time for funtrivia. I should also stop making excuses all the time. 2009 is going to be a big year for me. My son is turning 16 in January, my daughter is starting high school, also in January (grade 8) and me, I'm turning 40 , in February. So I guess I'll make some resolutions after I get through that.

I have to choose very simple things as I nearly always fail to keep my resolutions. Something like putting lotion on my feet every day, or not eating near the PC. I will try very hard, but don't hold out much hope. But then when you are almost perfect it is hard to find anything to improve on....

I made the resolution some years back not to make New Year's resolutions anymore. So far I have kept it successfully. I usually take an introspective look back (and forward) at my life at my birthday. This works far better for me.

Definitely exercising more, and hopefully as a result losing a few pounds.
I also hope to gain some direction in my life.. will be finished with university in April, but I still have no idea where I'm going from there.

1. To write more. 2. To complain less. 3. To be more physically active and fit. 4. To be more responsible. 5. To say "no" more often

Well. I'm going to give up smoking and am very determined to do so. Thought about it about six weeks ago when my son did something about how dangerous smoking was in school. So I thought I'd go with it and smoke my little head off for the rest of the year and then stop. The boy will be my biggest supporter and I will use his guilt to get me though. The other half smokes and won't give up but he will ahve his smokes in the shed and will smoke down there so I can't be tempted. Ugh. It's not going to be pretty.

Copago, You will definitely be in my prayers for it must be terrible trying to quit. I've never smoked myself but have friends and family members who have - some still do. Those who smoke no longer said it was hard but they were determined to quit - and did. Good Luck! Let us know how you are doing from time to time.

I resolve to finish my past and live for today. I resolve to reach out to others and find ways to connect with my community (Including Funtrivia ) to be less isolated. I resolve to live in the present more and stop hoping that the future events will change today's happiness. I resolve to find things that make me feel passionate and alive. I resolve to appreciate what I have and worry less about what I don't. I resolve to live, laugh and love! I resolve to stop thinking of this topic before my brain explodes. OHH one more please!I resolve to use more S M I L E S !

My resolution is to NOT smoke again. I have lasted 2 years now, and I know what Copago is up against- it is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do!
Mate, if you need any help, just ask...

Having catalogued my books some time ago, I find that I have about 400 that I've never read at all, and many more that I've read and forgotten about. So I will try to get round to reading these instead of acquiring more and more new ones.
Good luck, Copago. It was actually at the New Year 20 years ago that I finally managed to quit on my third (or was it fourth?) attempt, so it can be done.

I didn't give up smoking in March 2000, I merely put off lighting the next one, so almost nine years but I know that I can have one if I want as I didn't give up. Good luck Jillian.
