And to you also, ren! Please eat, drink, and be merry for me.

I saw these words somewhere else, and had NO idea what they meant!

Thank you, ren, and of course, the same to you!

It really means 'Congratulations and be prosperous', or 'get rich.' Not really Happy New Year as such. The village was very noisy at midnight(my POOR dog!). I am going for a celebration tomorrow (today is really for families). My friend has ordered a sucking pig, all ready cooked and crunchy. She asked me to bring .... mince pies! lol.

Perhaps with all this feasting it is no wonder 'Fat' comes into it.

Happy Chinese New Year to all.

Wohoo, party time for ren! The suckling pig sounds delicious! Kung hei fat choy to you ren, and to any other of our Chinese friends here at FT.

ren, I looked for a phonetic pronounciation of this phrase and can't find one. I'd like to wish the Chinese family that run my local supermarket "Prosperity" in Chinese rather than in Spanish. I have the Kung, Fat, Choi part (I think) - How do you pronounce Hei?

Mags - I have always heard it pronounced 'hey', but waiting to be told pronouncing it like that is a deadly insult... Happy New Year to any Rats out there (and all the rest of the signs, of course!)
