The Abbey Gatehouse of St. Albans was the 14th century gateway to the abbey, and is now part of St. Albans School
From about 1550 to 1870 it was used as a jail and courthouse.

Yes, it's funny the way geese stand on one foot with the other pulled up. Supposedly to conserve heat. Maybe a better way is not to stand on icy lakes!

There was ice on the edges of the lake and inexplicably piles of snow around the water edge in certain places. I wasn't aware of any recent snows and the area seems to get quite a bit of sun so the snow piles being there was a bit of a mystery to me.

I showed the fields round here in Hertfordshire in the snow, this is what they look like underneath a few miles north.

Saw this bird's nest in a Cholla cactus this evening. The Cholla is nicknamed the Jumping Cactus because the sections on its arms break off very easily with the slightest touch, almost as if they had jumped. This nest is pretty low to the ground, but the Cholla will keep predators away!

This basketball was sitting in the middle of the river this afternoon. Luckily nobody seemed to be wanting to retrieve it, as it was a mild day and the ice likely to be quite thin!

Had been having sunshine here, spring like weather with warm temps. for a couple weeks.

In 3 hrs. yesterday ... 40cm of white stuff ... (15") fell - the city streets were harrowing ...

we are sick and tired of all this ...

What an delightful image that is Shellsie, though I see your point about being fed up with it. At first the persective wasn't clear and I didn't notice the car wheels, and thought those small trees were large ones

This is the sunrise from the rear of our house.

such a glorious sunrise picqero ... so worth getting up for in the dawn to wrap yourself in something so beautiful.

yes, the perspective is from a third floor window ... the trees are small holly bushess ... there was another five hours of snow after that ...

it did melt down some in the morning though ...

Great array of photos. Love the sunrise Pic. And the snow photo is so interesting.

I was kneeling down taking photos of my son doing motorbike tricks the other day and saw this and thought I'd take a photo of it.

Me and my dog.

That would have made a great photo for the 'shadows' theme!

Love the snow picture - makes everything look like wonderland or toyland when all the rough edges are rounded over like that (though I sympathise with the amount of 'white stuff' you've been having!).

Your sunrise is spectacular, piq!

Sorry about all the snow, Shellsie, but the photos are lovely for those of us who don't see it!

This is the bridge over the little river at London Colney, which is not actually in London but Hertfordshire.

The garden is looking quite good so I picked a few bits for our school foyer on Monday. It will have a big red rose at centre left by then.

The statue that gave Kala Ghoda its name. Tracked it down to the Byculla Zoo.

Great shot Tredici, presumably a time exposure, and you used a tripod?
This is the colourful entrance sign to the nearby village of Bayford
