Hello all,
I really want to build up a list of acoustic songs. I'm looking for new and old songs that mainly consist of acoustic guitar. Does anyone have any favourites that I may not have come across before? My favourite genre is classic rock, but feel free to throw in titles from other genres too Thanks for your help

I am a big fan of Peter Paul and Mary. They have some beautiful acoustic pieces. Earl Morning Rain is one of my favorites.

This version of Coldplay's "Trouble" is a particular favourite of mine, with Chris Martin belting out the lyrics whilst wrapping his fingers around some stupendous chords.

Great song +talented singer + accoustic guitar = 3 minutes well spent.

Two by Joni Mitchell: "Big Yellow Taxi"

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZgMEPk6fvpg

and "Both Sides Now".
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bcrEqIpi6sg

Just Joni and her guitar. I'm a bit biased, as I'm a huge fan.

On a more modern note, this is more of a "unplugged" MTV type of tweak than a purely acoustic performance. The song is "Angels/Losing/Sleep" by Our Lady Peace. I know that the solo acoustic clip WAS on YouTube, but I can't find it at the moment. Not my favourite OLP tune, but I do love this version.

"Dakota" by the Stereophonics.
Ignore the BBC cooking lesson at the beginning of the clip .

Here's a couple from James Taylor. What more do I need to say? Just great songs.

Since someone already mentioned Joni Mitchell, don't forget "A Case of You". Beautiful song.

Tori Amos recorded a cover version of the song, but substituted a piano for acoustic guitar. I quite like both renditions

I just saw this thread. Great choices all and the 'old timers' are still hanging in there as some of the best offerings because they're timeless in my opinion. I immediately would have gone to Taylor, Mitchell, and Stevens off the top of my head if asked.

Thanks for responding with such great songs. I haven't heard some of them, but I'm a big Cat Stevens fan!
I appreciate the links too!

I'm an old guy... really old... and there's a bundle of songs from the actual "acoustic era" that I could mention. But no one here would know any of 'em. For the uninitiated, the "acoustic era" refers to music recorded before electronic devices were utilized in the recording process, prior to 1925 or so.

But to keep things contemporary, I'll nominate "More Than Words" by Extreme in 1990. Lovely song!

Jeff Buckley's good! And there's Ben Harper, Keaton Simons, and Damien Rice. And Bob Dylan without a doubt!

Lovehurts by Gram Parsons and Emmylou Harris, Gram's life was cut short at 27 by a drugs overdose. This is a beautiful accoustic song with two voices that go together.

The entire CD "Unplugged In New York" by Nirvana,I`ve played it to death over the last few years,in fact the first copy I had was a tape! If I had to choose one song from it that was my favorite I couldn`t,but I could choose two songs. "Lake Of Fire" and "Where Did You Sleep Last Night".

Edited to add.....I also really enjoy listening to "Lead Belly" singing his version of "Where Did You Sleep Last Night".

Generally I have little appreciation for the unplugged version of the original, but the Stone Temple Pilot's acoustic rendering of " Plush " was one outstanding exception. I actually prefer it over the original. Perhaps one reason is that it falls more comfortably within my range. I wish I could give a youtube link, but alas it has been removed by WMG as several of my favorites on YT.

I may get shot for this, but I must say (although it's not guitar, but piano), any of Lady Gaga's songs with just her voice and piano are pretty amazing.

Her studio versions are nothing special, but listening to her just sing is a great surprise.

One of my favorite bands, called The Icarus Account is mainly acoustic. They're not to well known, but you might want to check them out if you enjoy acoustic songs. Here's one of my favorites and one of their more popular songs.
