Very good, Sara. Another one:

Lady in Red

I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright
I've never seen so many men ask you if you wanted to dance
They're looking for a little romance, given half a chance
I have never seen that dress you're wearing
Or the highlights in your head that catch your eyes I have been blind
The lady in red is dancing with me cheek to cheek
There's nobody here, it's just you and me, It's where I wanna be
But I hardly know this beauty by my side
I'll never for get, the way you look tonight

I've never seen you looking so gorgeous as you did tonight
I've never seen you shine so bright you were amazing
I've never seen so many people want to be there by your side
And when you turned to me and smiled, It took my breath away
I have never had such a feeling
Such a feeling of complete and utter love, as I do tonight

The way you look tonight
I never will forget, the way you look tonight
The lady in red
The lady in red
The lady in red
My lady in red (I love you.)

When I was still singing, I always used this for shows on St. Valentine's Day. It's still one of my favorites.

Some day, when I'm awfully low,
When the world is cold,
I will feel a glow just thinking of you...
And the way you look tonight.

Yes you're lovely, with your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft,
There is nothing for me but to love you,
And the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows,
Tearing my fear apart...
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose,
It touches my foolish heart.

Lovely ... Never, ever change.
Keep that breathless charm.
Won't you please arrange it ?
'Cause I love you ... Just the way you look tonight.

Mm, Mm, Mm, Mm,
Just the way you look to-night.

Here's a link to a favorite performance of the song. Wish I had been this good.

ren, thank you for starting off my day with 19 minutes of bliss. Yes, I watched the video twice. No one can play guitar quite like Eric does. A wonderfully gifted composer, he sings with such feeling and passion. This song, and River of Tears are my two favourites by Slowhand. Perhaps a song too sad for Valentines, but guaranteed to raise a lump in the throat, and awe in the heart.

Yowza ! Hard to follow up after the maestro that is Clapton, indeed. And it's eerie, too ~ I came on here to share "The Way You Look Tonight" as well . But tsunamicharly (obviously a fellow with very good taste ) beat me to it. I was going to link to the James Taylor take on it, though - but totally agree that the Buble version (which I'd never heard before) represents the tune spectacularly.

My Valentine's *fave* this year (they seem to change annually, however) is this one. Seems to get it all said, and says it ever-so-nicely, too.

How about Bob Dylan's classic "Lay Lady Lay"? (and my favorite Dylan song):

Lay lady Lay, Lay across my big brass bed,
Lay Lady Lay, Lay across my big brass bed,
Whatever colors you have in your mind,
I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine,
Lay Lady Lay, Lay across my big brass bed

Stay Lady Stay, Stay with your man awhile,
Until the break of day, let me see you make him smile,
His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean,
And you're the best thing that he's ever seen,
Stay Lady Stay, Stay with your man awhile

Why wait any longer for the world to begin?
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you

Lay Lady Lay, Lay across my big brass bed,
Stay Lady Stay, Stay while the night is still ahead,
I long to see you in the morning light,
I long to reach for you in the night,
Stay Lady Stay, Stay while the night is still ahead

For established couples:

"Asking Us to Dance" performed by Kathy Mattea, written by Hugh Prestwood

There's a full moon up and rising,
And there's a whisper of a breeze.
Blowing through the tangled silver,
Hanging from the cypress trees.
There's a river made of moonlight,
Flowing clear across the lake.
And there's a million stars just waitin',
To fall for any wish we make.

Darlin' tonight I am reminded,
How much these two hearts need romance.
You know it isn't all that often,
We get this kind of chance.
Why don't we get caught in this moment?
Be victims of sweet circumstance?
Tonight I feel like all creation,
Is asking us to dance.

There'll be time enough tomorrow,
To get back to our daily bread.
But there's something 'bout this evening,
That's put this notion in my head.
That heaven and the earth are meeting,
Tonight upon this very spot.
And all the things on earth worth havin',
Are things that we've already got.

Darlin' tonight I am reminded,
How much these two hearts need romance.
You know it isn't all that often,
We get this kind of chance.
Why don't we get caught in this moment?
Be victims of sweet circumstance?
Tonight I feel like all creation,
Is asking us to dance.

Why don't we get caught in this moment?
Be victims of sweet circumstance?
Tonight I feel like all creation,
Is asking us to dance.

For yet-to-find-each-other couples:

"Drift Off to Dream", performed by Travis Tritt, written by Travis Tritt & Stewart Harris

I sit here surrounded by people and lights
Alone with my drink at the bar
You've been here forever, so clear in my mind
I just don't know where you are
I know I'll find you but girl 'til I do
This is my love song for you

Let's hold hands on the porch swing, under the moon
While the wind through the willows plays us a tune
We can lie on a blanket, out back in the yard
And wish for our future on a faraway star
You'll feel the passion as time after time
I press your sweet lips to mine
Then we'll dance to the radio, right up 'til dawn
'Til you drift off to dream in my arms

You might be hundreds or more miles away
Or you might be just down the street
But there'll be a hunger deep in your eyes
That I'll recognize when we meet
It might take hours or it might take years
But this is the song you will hear

Let's hold hands on the porch swing, under the moon
While the wind through the willows plays us a tune
We can lie on a blanket, out back in the yard
And wish for our future on a faraway star
You'll feel the passion as time after time
I press your sweet lips to mine
Then we'll dance to the radio, right up 'til dawn
'Til you drift off to dream in my arms

My favorite song for valentine's day is My Funny Valentine. Here's a good version:
