Blossom Dearie died Feb 07 2009.

Probably most of you haven't heard of her, but anyone who has had their fill of the 'diva' type of singer would find her a refreshing change. A very small voice, but perfect, with always interesting phrasing and her intelligence and wit shining through. She didn't like to be known as a "jazz singer", but was at her best, I think, singing the old jazz standards.

She worked until she was a very old lady indeed, and I had always thought one day I'd get to New York to hear her. Sorry now I never made it.

I love my jazz - and like to hunt up lesser known artists and was 'introduced 'to Blossom Dearie by a school friend with similar tastes, around the time she launched her Daffodil Records in the mid seventies.
Such a soft and clear voice.

I'm sorry you didn't see her perform agony - she had such a special style.

Classic FM often included Blossom Dearie on it's Jazztrack programme and I was sad to hear of her death.
This is a favourite piece of mine.

I'm so sorry to hear of this. She had a beautiful voice --sweet and clear.

If anyone at FunTrivia is a fan of Schoolhouse Rock (the short animated segments from the 70's), Blossom Dearie sang "Unpack Your Adjectives" and "Figure Eight."
