A theme we had ages ago but worth a second visit.

The magnificent sundial, on the Church of St. Lawrence in Eyam dates from 1775, though the church itself dates from the thirteenth century. It shows the time, signs of the zodiac and the latitude of Eyam, plus various cities from Calcutta to Mexico with their time difference from Britain. At the top is a latin inscription "Induce Animum, Sapientem" meaning, ‘Take to thyself a wise mind’. Another Latin motto on the dial's stone supports reads, "Ut umbra sic vita", which translates "As the shadow passes, so does life".



Eyam village is famous for the self sacrifice of the inhabitants, during the great plague of 1665-1666.

The Old Town Clock, Halifax, Nova Scotia, built in 1803, photographed in September 2008 when I visited that lovely city.

The Daniels & Fisher (D&F) Tower is a distinctive Denver, Colorado landmark. Built as part of the Daniels & Fisher department store in 1910, it was the tallest structure west of the Mississippi at the time, at a height of 325 feet (99 m). Modeled after The Campanile (St. Mark's Bell Tower) at the Piazza San Marco in Venice, Italy, the 20-floor clock tower has clock faces on all four sides.
