The black people/community in America have had many names. During my lifetime I remember three different names they called themselves and at the time, all were politically correct: Negro, Black, and now African-American. I never thought about it until today, but how are you/they addressed in other countries? Obviously, I do NOT wish to know of any derogatory terms and I know that FTer's are beyond that capability anyway.

Personally I just use the term 'African', the same as I would use 'English' for someone of English origins, Indian, for someone of Indian origins, etc.

I remember hearing (several years ago) that 'Black' is a term that is (or was at the time) perfectly acceptable.

Afro-Caribbean is the usual term used in the UK these days, and Asian for Indian/Pakistanis etc.

The police have their own codes, IC1 - white person, IC2 - Latin, IC3 - Black, IC4 - Indian/Asian, IC5 - Chinese/Oriental, IC6 - Arabic Person

It's like walking on eggshells, isn't it? Guess it doesn't come up very often but I'd probably say black American.

oh right. Ummm. Probably just say black then. It doesn't really come up that often.

I know there are some groups who call themselves Natives and other groups who find the term Native highly offensive.
