It didn't actually bite or sting me, but it nearly gave me a heart attack!
I went to the downstairs loo in the middle of the night, and didnt turn on the light, as that tends to make me wide awake, so I sort of felt my way. I sat down and made a start. Then SOMETHING hit my backside and splashed back down again. I screamed as loudly as you have ever heard in your life, and nearly passed out. It was a small tree frog who had fallen off his branch and slithered down though the little window at the top, fallen into the loo and was jumping helplessly to try and escape. I don't remember ever being so scared. No it isn't funny......

ren33, count your blessings. Your frog could have been one of these.

I was headbutted by a goat. When examining goats at the West Midland Safari Park, my then fiance (a country type) commented how much the billy smelled. I said that I couldn't smell it, so he told me that the scent glands were behind the ears. After he picked me up (roaring with laughter) he asked me why I hadn't known that lowering one's head to a goat (to sniff it, in my case!) was a threatening gesture. He's not my fiance any more.

That story was a scream Ren! I recall staying at a caravan park in Lightning Ridge in New South Wales,it`s an opal mining town, and waking up at 1.00am to use the facilities. I checked out all 6 toilets in the mens block and saw LARGE frogs in every single toilet, if one of those frogs had hit your posterior it would have been like getting smacked with a tennis ball!

Ren, I laughed so hard I cried. I'm sure it wasn't funny to you at the time, but thank you for sharing.

I might have known you would all laugh. In answer, no I didn't flush the frog but I screamed until someone else did!

Good job it was only a frog as you may have ended up on the menu in 'The Way Of All F-L-E-S-H' chain as 'Toad in the Hole'

Having been to England several times and yet to become a fan of their cuisine, the picture of 'Toad in the Hole' actually looked delicious. How come I've never seen it on a menu before?

Well, Martha I reckon Toad in the Hole is a home thing and is not very often found on restaurant menus. I love it, my gran made it on Saturdays, with lots of gravy. Yum.

Hmm, this thread made me think...

I was once bitten by someones pet rat, I had (stupidly) put Cool Whip on my finger and was letting the thing lick it off when it bit.

Another time I was petting a large macaw and it grabbed hold of my finger, thankfully I thought to stay calm remembering that they could crack nuts open with their beaks, so I stood there and waited for it to let go, lost a bit of skin on my finger.

The cat bit me the other day because I had the audacity to try and retrieve my hand on which she was laying.

As for bugs, I've been stung by bees (stepped on one, the other stun my lip as I asked "Is it gone?") and a wasp. I've also had fleas thanks to the family dog, and spiders love me.

Once when I was younger I used to keep a sports bottle filled with water next to my bed at night, one night I went to drink out of the straw and felt something in my mouth, which immediately bit me, it was an earwig, I ran around the house screaming and spitting.

What loves to get me the most though are mosquitoes, they just love me. My dad did not believe how much until he saw how many times I got bit while wearing bug repellant. In one night I got bit a total of thirty times, the total for the week I was at my father's was about sixty. Of course I think this may be due to the fact that there are no more bats in New York to eat the things.

Don't know how I'd missed this thread. Lots of funny stories, especially since everyone survived their close encounters with various furry, slimy and winged creatures.

I've had my share of run-ins with bees and the like. Once a neighbor kid told me not to go over to his house that afternoon when no one was home and scream into the hole at the top of his swingset. Why did I go over there, climb all the way up and do it? I was curious. There was a wasps' nest there, and they all came out and swarmed me. As I was only five, I couldn't get down quickly enough to avoid being stung multiple times.

Next run-in was when I was about eight playing Barbies in a tree at another neighbor's house. As I was making my doll walk along the tree branch, I pushed her legs into a soft part of the branch. It was a bees' nest, and they all came out angrily and stung me a ton of times before I could get down from the tree and go crying home.

The final time was when I was all of ten and still trying to prove how brave I was to the other kids in the neighborhood. We went to a nearby quarry and were climbing up the face of the rock (instead of using the path). I got higher than anyone, and then couldn't figure out how to get up or down. All of a sudden I heard a familiar buzzing sound. Yes, I was stuck right next to another bees' nest. By the time I found my way out of there, I'd been stung multiple times too.

I've always taken a B vitamin complex before going to mosquito country, and that seems to help them not want to bite me. Gives off some kind of scent that they don't like. Not medical advice by any means, just a suggestion of something that has helped me avoid the little bloodsuckers!

Well, I've been having fun the past couple of days. Allergic to bee stings, last Saturday I got stung. (the little stinker!) A cute little bee caught me unaware. Well, on the other hand, if I were aware, I would not have let it get me.

On my right hand, ring finger, right where a ring would go had I been wearing one. The good news is, "I'm still breathing!" Last time, many years ago, my arm swelled, asthma kicked in, and off to the hospital I went.

This time I waited, 15 minutes later I still had no sign of breathing problems, and the swelling was negligible. (Of course my EpiPen was at home.) All seemed just fine. It wasn't until the next day that it had started to swell, turn red, and itch like heck! First thing I did was google the problem and find out what was considered "normal." Well, it seemed to be progressing normally so I did nothing. On Monday (yesterday) the swelling and redness had reached above my wrist and didn't seem to be abating at all. My husband decided I needed to go to the doctor. Got an appointment for the same day (miracle in itself). Bottom line, the wound was infected (which I suspected) and was given a prescription for an antibiotic. Odd, since I had immediately applied hydrogen peroxide to the sting.

Anyway, the redness is now lessening as well as the swelling. I can type now! A few more days or a week and hopefully all will be well.

Glad you got it taken care of Jar. I used to have stronger reactions to stings too, perhaps due to the number of times I was stung as a child. I'd swell up and had trouble breathing. Though I'd read that allergies tend to be cyclic and can abate with time, I'd never been anxious to test this theory myself! A few years ago I was at a friend's ranch in the Colombian cattle country, far from civilization, and of course I did get stung. I was worried we'd have to get to a backwater hospital immediately, but other than soreness and a bit of itching, I had no other reaction. Looks like my body has adjusted over time. Looks like your allergy has gotten a bit more manageable too.

Aside from the usual insect bites and stings (horseflies are the worst), I've been bitten and kicked by horses, and bitten (not seriously) by a dog.

Besides normal insects bites/stings. I've been bitten, kicked by a calf and goat. Bitten by hamsters, one rabbit. Bitten by my guinea pig a few times (but that was because he thought my hand was food). Bitten, thrown up on by cats and dogs. Scratched by cats.

Other than all the usual stuff.. when we were on our honeymoon, my husband was taken out for a days fishing with a couple of Elders from the area. He caught a few fish, including a crocodilian long tom, which is a long slender fish with many teeth. Duly killed it and put it into the bait bucket. Some time later, he reached into the bait bucket, and this "dead" fish latched on to his finger, necessitating six stitches and an tetanus booster !
Also, I once nursed a two year old who had his finger almost removed when a rabbit bit him !
