I know I posted a phone box a couple of days ago (I'm always doing that - posting a pic and then finding it fits the theme for the following week, lol!) but here is another - with bike rack, and street signs and lamps also.

Are there many old phone boxes around in England nowadays?

These cream ones are special to East Yorkshire which has its own private telephone company. New developments elsewhere have the boring grey and glass type and the original red ones are mostly in older parts of towns and villages - and sometimes they even work!

Well, here we have the street sign 'High Street Eton', a post box, a bent traffic bollard (probably there to save the postbox from collision damage), a bicycle stand, a parking sign, and a parking ticket meter!

Was anyone thinking of me when they thought of this?

Here's one of my favourite old signs in Lightwater Surrey. They have kept them on all their A roads, probably the only county in Britain to do so. They changed about 1964 and they were either like this, with yellow borders for urban areas or blue for local roads.

The High Street, Salisbury. Fixtures include a bike stand, bench, litter bin, and, on the right, a "naked" holder for hanging baskets.



Oh and at the back of the picture, the cathedral's High Street Gate. I guess you could call that a fixture, it's been there about 700 years or so, lol.

Taking this photo was what inspired me to suggest this theme, so I guess I'd better use it, eh? Stumbled upon this rather old-fashioned hydrant on one of my rambles.

Here's a decorated traffic light from the East Village that I took today:





There is a man who has been going around the village for over a decade, decorating street fixtures using leftover bits of china, porcelain, glass and whatever else he can find. He takes donations, but mostly works for free, and he really makes the neighborhood even more unique than it already is. The caption, if you can make it out on the bottom of the pole, reads: "A Nation Once Again," which he added after Sept 11, 2001.
