Helen Clarke, the first democratically elected female PM of New Zealand has just been appointed the job of overseeing the UN Aid Development programmes.
Hand on heart I have voted for her and against her in the past(She held the PM job for 3 terms though!). Much speculation has been made of the fact she's been appointed to clean-up an area of the UN that is rife with systemic corruption.
If that's the case then the selectors have chosen wisely. She has a backbone and a conscience;as well as a formidable reputation for getting the job done. The high standards she expects of herself she will expect of those in her employ; she does not suffer fools lightly. Those shilly-shalliers in the UN had better be worried;
you won't find Ms Clarke on exotic holidays, buying little trinkets or partying the night away in clubs and bars on the UN expense account.
