An interesting name for a tavern; the 'Spread Eagle' in the nearby market town of Ware.

LOL - picquero - an interesting name indeed.

This pic is from last year's cherry blossom festival at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden - one of the most beautiful places in New York. I hope to get out there in a week or so, but in the meantime - it's "Pink Snow."

So beautiful this time of year.

You have the tavern, Picqero, but we have a whole Spread Eagle Village ...it's a shopping/dining complex in the western Philly suburbs. Their sign is a lot more bland than McMullen's.

While wandering around Laurel Hill State Park the other week, I realized that the first picture I posted here in Photo-a-Day, back in the summer of 2007, was taken just a short walk upstream from this point. It's been good fun since then, and a challenge, to try to "see" a daily photo, whether or not the camera's handy. (or has charged batteries )

Such a beautiful picture, Ysmay.

This was taken at the beach a few days ago.

This tiny red flower in my garden is a favorite with butterflies and hummingbirds.

Swans are majestic, powerful creatures but I think they also have a sense of humour because they love to chase other birds - especially one of my other favourites, the coot.

Oh and if a swan ever chases you, run!

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina is a popular tourist town that is currently fighting a wildfire that is sweeping throughout the town. 20,000 acres and 70 homes have been burned so far. This was taken yesterday afternoon going through town. The glare on the photo is because it was taken through the truck window.

Thanks all! I don't think I've every seen a coot, flopsymopsy! Pretty bird.

I heard about the Carolina fires - terrible. Not a place usually known for big fires?

This is the time for my favorite flower in the whole world - the lilac. This is from last year's crop at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. They have an enormous stand of them by the rose garden.

They smell so pretty!!

This is the gherkin building in the City of London I took when I went to see David Blaine there in 2003. It wasn't actually finished then as you can see at the top, and I think was meant to be a sea sponge and not a gherkin but that is the name that stuck, and is the Swiss Reinsurance building in reality.

How I spent last Sunday

We did a tasting tour of the breweries and distilleries in the Swan Valley last weekend. 'We' being my husband and I, and another couple. At the two distilleries we sampled rum and vodka. We sampled at three out of the five breweries in the region. That's all we had time for but we'll catch the other two next time! Here are some of the samplers. I was the "skipper" (meaning I did the driving and refrained from drinking). Honestly, the sacrifices I make for my husband!

Oh, MG, you're a better woman than I. No way would I be kept out of a brewery sampling.

Beautiful raindrops and flowers. Love the lilacs! I'm looking forward to seeing some here before too long.

This car was just sitting there in a field this afternoon, waiting for me to walk by and take its picture...

Satguru - I never knew the building was called the gherkin. I've always thought of it as "that Easter Egg building," but gherkin is more appropriate. Great shot!

Ren, it's called Kihim beach. Just an hour away from Bombay by ferry.

The Gateway of India. Currently under restoration work.

I first saw the gherkin with our own Sue when she took me on the London Eye.

The only way I'd have been designated driver on a brewery tasting day was in teh other half had promised on his child's life that it was his turn next time.

Cenotaph at White Cliffs on ANZAC day.

Period buildings in Hertford town centre, our county town. The postbox, which carries the insignia of our present queen, is a lot younger than the buildings.

InsecT with an accent on the 'T' because of the shape . It's living on our kitchen wall at present. It has a wingspan of about an inch. I believe it is a Plume Moth (or 'meurth' as Inspector Clouseau would have said).
