Oh my goodness, did you watch the show last night? For those who didn't, or cannot, there was this sweet little lady named Susan Boyle. Susan is a maiden lady of 47 who lives with her cat in a small Scottish village and has never even been kissed. She has no social graces, seemed rather eccentric, has no dress sense, no make-up and is short and dumpy. When she walked onto the stage the audience sniggered and were obviously expecting and hoping for a dreadful performance so they could boo and laugh. When asked by Simon who she would like to be compared to she said Elaine Paige and the audience loved it, they were going to really enjoy themselves at her expense. Then she sang. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lp0IWv8QZYI am not a great fan of posting links to YouTube but this is one you really need to see and listen to. Enjoy.

haha that's brilliant! Had to wipe a little tear from my eye to see just how excited she was. Watched it a few times to see the expression on SImon's face when Susan started to sing.
Please let us know how she goes in the comp, Sue!!
On a slightly related note .. is Simon racking up the airmiles or what? If he's doing that show plus Idol that's a lot of travelling.

Oh. My. GOD! Anybody who even kinda knows me , knows how much I live for moments like that shared on a stage/TV. Susan Boyle is bloody fantastic - in all sorts o' ways. How dare Mr. Cowell come rocketing across the ocean and bark on American television about "package artists" after having the privelege of hearing Ms. Boyle !? Outstanding performance indeed. A very Paul Potts-ish moment there, for sure!

How changeable a crowd can be. In the beginning people sneered and muttered. But by the time she was about to reach the crescendo of I Dreamed A Dream I actually saw worried, sympathetic faces...would she survive that difficult note progression, the last high syllable?
That she did and seemingly without effort, too. From start to finish, she was confident in her secret skill; you could see it in her manner and the look on her face. I almost loved that part better even than the absolute chocolate-like treat of hearing her sing. Her voice is sweet and clear and thrilling.

I have several youtubes of performances from that show. Makes me mad we don't have access to watching it here. I wish they would dedicate one of the four million cable channels to these shows in every country.

I am a massive musical lover, and that was unbelievable. I really hope she goes well in the show, she was incredible. I don't usually watch BGT until the finals but I'll be supporting her definately.

My wife and I watched the show on Saturday evening, and like everyone else we were stunned by Susan's performance. The youtube clips, good as they are, don't do her justice, she was simply amazing. Before she started singing, the TV cameras panned round the audience, and many were getting ready for a laugh and to dismiss her. That changed immediately she sang her first note, and by the end of her performance there were many tearful faces and a standing ovation! She can already count Hollywood stars in her huge list of admirers, and even though this was the first round of the competition she's already odds-on favourite to win it. Other versions of 'I dreamed a dream' have received a strong sales boost because of Susan's performance, and there's little doubt that her version would go straight to the top of the charts if she could release it. Sadly that ain't gonna happen yet, as she must wait until the TV series concludes. For sure, she'll be a hard act to follow, and any serious competition will have to be very good indeed.

She's really getting some press. "Good Morning America" did a piece on her here in the States today. Everyone is just captivated by this unassuming woman with such a voice.

I was bowled over by her, how she hasn't been heard before is beyond me, except that she did say that she's never been given the chance. I'm sure her star is definitely on the rise now, and her days of dreaming will be fulfilled. Wonder who her first kiss will be?

Sadly, in this day and age, talent takes a back seat to looks and good agent."Can he/she sing?" has been replaced by "Can we market him/her?". In this age of vapid, vain, overrated singers, who are lip-synching to the glee of prepubescent girls everywhere,it's nice to sometimes find a diamond in the rough like Susan.

Just for the record, the show is called Britain's Got Talent, in case anyone fancies googling it Another act from the same show was the dance group Flawless a group of young black guys who have been working together on their act for four years. Simon Cowell, in his summing up, thought they were an inspiration to the younger generation, and their performance sure was electrifying. I'm sure their performances in the next heats of Britain's Got Talent will be awesome, and these young men will go far.

She's getting a lot of press around here - both national and local news. I guess the capacity to surprise Simon Cowell is a remarkable thing - as well as a great voice.
Isn't there also a show in the U.S. that's called "America's Got Talent" based on that British show? With David Hasselhof? Is "Pop Idol" still running in Britain? Simon's giving himself lots to do - hence the rumors that he's quitting (at least American Idol).

Jeesh ! Wow (to Flawless), too! That one judge got it right when he called that "electrifying" indeed. I tell ya ... Britain's talent seems to be putting we Americans to shame !

Susan probably would have been discovered years ago but she had to leave college to look after her sick mother.

I think half were me! I keep listening to it and each I get goosebumps.
Twice I have been to the theatre when Les Miserables has been on and both times I fell asleep! Obviously whoever sang that song wasn't Susan's standard.

Yes, ysmay, there is America's Got Talent and David Hasselhoff is so creepy as a judge it's nearly unwatchable. And they let through the stupidest acts which would never last a heartbeat in a Vegas act. I've tried watching the show but it bores me to tears.

Let me just say I HATE American Idol and anything remotely like it. I HATE the type of song that Susan sang which I only viewed because of all the hype on YouTube and do you know what? From the very second that the video began to play which was basically them behind stage I was caught up in something magical. IF I could bottle that up and take that once a day I surely would. I can only imagine that lady has endured a lot because of how she looks and she was even insulted by the judges after her great performance because they felt compelled to bear their hearts. Wow I hope she gets a hundred fold what's due to her and that she's extremely blessed.
