Wikipedia reports that Beatrice Arthur died today from cancer at the age of 86. One of television's forward thinking characters as Maude Findlay, she will be greatly missed.

Thank you for being a friend, R.I.P.

I saw the story on Yahoo! Only Blanche and Rose are left, and Rose is the oldest of the four.

As a child, I remember watching her in Maude. Years later, I watched her again in Golden Girls. I always liked her. She will be missed.

A few years ago, when she was here in NYC to do a one-woman show, I saw her having lunch in the Oak Room at the Plaza. An extremely talented and forward-thinking woman. Yes, she will be missed.

I hadn't heard until this thread! I just loved her in Maude, which was a spin-off of All in the Family, and she was just great in the Golden Girls. My favorite English teacher in High School resembled her in voice and in looks. Bea leaves behind some great shows.
