Growing the game question database

As discussed in other threads, some of our categories are a little thin and it would be great to have more questions in them for our super-frequent players.
I'm considering adding this feature: "Submit a Question".
Unlike a quiz, players would submit a single question at a time. You will select category (Sports, Geography), enter the text of the question. The system would search for similar questions and warn you if it appears that question already exists. If it's original, then you enter the answers, any interesting info, and click submit.
Questions would then be checked over by an editor (either a quiz editor, or someone new specifically chosen for this feature), and accepted questions will be placed in our game database and sucked into the hourly/daily games.
Players will earn points (30 per accepted question?), and there will be a couple of badges (100 (?) accepted submissions etc).
Players who submit junk and/or who are clearly submitting questions already on FunTrivia would be prohibited from participating in the future.
This way we can ensure a steady stream of questions in some of the thinner categories, and actually change incentives to encourage say more Geography or History (40 pts/question, etc)...
Thoughts?

That sounds like a good idea - there must be lots of times when an author's idea for a whole quiz doesn't quite pan out, but leaves 3 or 4 good questions unused, or one comes across a fascinating fact that would make a great Q - this would give them a 'home' Would the person who submits a question be able to use that same question later on, in a full quiz? Or would it be strictly a one off thing? (I just realised that Bx already asked this but in different words, so will put it down as "great minds thinking alike" )

If anyone wants to give it a whirl, here is my VERY early experimental system: http://www.funtrivia.com/questionpost.cfmYou can submit questions to our database here. You will earn 50 points for every question that is accepted. A first badge will be awarded at 50 accepted questions. Hopefully we can get a ton of new questions in some of our thinner categories.

Great idea Terry I added a question. Do we find out via a note whether or not a question is accepted or do we just look out for 50 points being credited to our account

This is a cool opportunity. Is there a way that new quiz authors could get credit toward FITB privileges if a certain number of their one at a time questions are approved/ Gable

Good idea Matt, a preview feature would (hopefully) save the editors from having to correct a lot of careless mistakes.

This is awesome, Terry... Just one thing...
I noticed there STILL isn't a video game category. I wish video games were in expert categories and other hourlies, and not even in this one! lol. Can that be changed?

Oh, wow! That was awesome, Terry! I can't wait until it is accepted.
Who do you have as the editors right now, Terry?

I wasn't too keen on this idea at first. I think it may severely limit the credit authors will gain (ratings-wise) for their originality. And as I plan on writing many FULL quizzes soon this could directly affect me.
Also, people who have been described as "Ultra-Active" will write many questions. These will be the same people playing the games in which the questions appear. This will surely give them an advantage.

Doublemm, I see what you are saying. But just look at one for example.. Nightmare. 20 questions written, when they get online, however, there will be, what, 200 questions? It will be difficult to see them all. Besides, this isn't for one game, these questions are added directly in the pool for OTHER games. So it would be no less fair than making an entire quiz. You may see a question in an hourly from a quiz you wrote, there is no difference from writing a question and seeing it in the hourly. You know?
