Such fab photos from everyone! PDAZ, you are totally making me homesick with Arizona photos; I haven't been home in months. There's nothing like a desert sunset. *sigh*

So since I'm in East Texas tonight, here's tonight's sunset. The camera just didn't do it justice. It was such a vibrant red.

OK. A little self-indulgence here (and a new camera to figure out as well, but that's another story ...). I should be embarrassed even more, too, since you folks' pictures are so darned good - I'm surrounded by keen eyes all over the globe. I'm always impressed to peek in here ! But, anyway, I moved from "country-to-city" shortly ago - pretty sure I could never grow anything out here in 'Cement-ville' once I landed. Took a chance, got back to my dirt and clay pots, and tried it anyway. Guess what? I opened the door to a Morning Glory today! First one of the summer . There's hope! Thus, the self-indulgence ...

No self indulgence that I can see. Just one perfectly hued, hand grown Morning Glory.

It's summer!

Affectionately known as 'the gherkin', one of London's modern iconic landmarks is the unusual office building at 30 St. Mary Axe.

Even though it looks like a gherkin the designer apparently based it on a sea sponge. Or maybe sea cucumber which of course would be a gherkin anyway.

I liked these cacti all in a row and discovered they are called mammary cactus. £40 is rather steep for one though so I'll do with a picture.

I went to an 8-year old's birthday party today, 27 kids, about the same number of moms. Face painting was just one of the activities on the agenda.

We are getting quite the variety of pictures lately. I like it. One of the neatest things about this forum is the ability to see other parts of the world.



There is a sculpture walk downtown. They rotate sculptures through. This one is called "Gossip" and depicts 3 women sitting around doing you know what. You women out there, don't blame me. Blame the artist for choosing to depict women. I know men are also capable of gossiping. We're just not as good at it.

Not many minutes before this photo was taken this afternoon, five people and one little dog were enjoying lunch on my sister's deck. At least the rain gave us enough warning to get everyone and everything inside before the hail arrived!

Wow, you miss a couple of days and it's a real treat to come in and see the wonderful variety of work displayed. There are a lot of really terrific pictures in this month's thread.

The other evening I took a stop at a park not 2 miles from my house. It has a small lake and there is an island in the center with lots of trees. Imagine my surprise to find this has become a nesting home for Snowy Egrets and Great Blue Heron. The quality isn't as sharp as I would like as it's quite a distance and the shadows in the trees made things a bit difficult. But here are some Egret chicks.

This stock-piled stack of roof tiles in a yard have weathered nicely into art. These are handmade tiles, the wet clay is shaped over the crafter's thigh.

Ploughing - the traditional way

You can't have too many cat photos, this little chap is waiting for me to stroke him and looks like an Abyssinian, although the ginger stripes on his head means whatever he is it's not 100% pedigree. Far healthier actually as it breeds out the bugs from pure breds- many Persians like one of mine was are deaf for example, except mine was only half so hadn't suffered from it.

What a lovely face he has -- very exotic! And since we can never have enough cats, this is Squirmer the Wyrm in his usual sleep mode. I've never had a cat who slept like this before -- cracks me up!

I found another kitty who likes to sleep like Squirmer PDAZ.

Here are a couple of the Great Blue Heron chicks nesting in the same trees I found the Snowy Egrets. These guys are enormous! Testing the wings to hopefully fly away soon.
