Wouldn't 8 or 12 hours be better for the game period? Just my opinion.

Happy Trivia!

Yes, it's just a test session right now.

The following changes will likely be made:

1. Move to 20 sets to avoid cheating

2. 12 hour running time

3. Severe time penalty to completely discourage googlers. I'm thinking 2 points / second up to 90 seconds, 5 points / second after 90 seconds.

4. More base points awarded.

Would it be possible to limit the number of questions in each set that come from a particular category? I just had three Sports questions, and two Television questions.

I did get one of the Television questions right but don't think I can count on being rescued by Postman Pat every day, lol.

Maybe something like 20 questions, at LEAST one per category? There are 18 categories, so you would get repeats, but not many... :-)

Although, my guess is that sports and tv have the most questions submitted (I know I have a LOT of TV questions), so that is why the repetition...

Hmm could, but I sort of like the completely random mix right now.

I'm noticing with interest that a good number of the questions are too difficult for most of our hourly games.

This question has been answered correctly 0/11 times so far, lol:

"In which book were the lyrics for "Jesus Loves Me" first written?"

Needless to say, it won't make it to the general question pool.

Neither will "Which Mediterranean island was ceded to Spain by Britain in the Treaty Of Amiens in 1802?", with a correctness of 9%.

Actually, I could probably shove them into obscurity.

How about 100 seconds as the breakpoint, 10 seconds per question?

I like all the ideas apart from the 12 hour running time, I quite like the idea of 4 a day.

I had three science questions in my set. You can go off of people. Naming no names but you know who I mean Jonno.

Perhaps 15 questions as a compromise?

Supersal1, as originally defined the game was to be played only once per day with a random starting time and a 6 hour play window. That is why I requested a longer play period, to give more players (like me) a chance at catching the game as it went past. Only Terry knows how it will end up.

Happy Trivia!

By shoving them into obscurity, does that mean that some of the questions that were rejected because it is "too obscure/difficult/specific" could actually go online? That would be nice... Make the questions easy to difficult, not easy to intermediate..

In which case, if you make it so the harder questions can still go online, is there any way to "resurrect" the ones that were rejected because of being too obscure? I have a few of them, which I didn't think were too obscure... It would be nice to get the difficult ones in obscurity. :-)

Is it also possible to get a mention of how many questions we've had accepted on our profile page?

And maybe, once a question appears in the new question game, it becomes a link, and you can see how it has been rated?

This game may not run at all for days, if we don't get new question submissions.

This game will run "as questions become available".

That may or may not be every day.

I love this new game.
No one has an advantage over anyone else and nobody can be accused of cheating or remembering answers either.
Great idea Terry

I think that implies there are 20 questions either currently or "in the talk". As I recall, the game had only 10 questions. I also don't believe there is any mention of increasing the questions. Where did you read that?
I like the idea of having 10 questions a set--and not because it's easier to get a perfect score. I think the 10 questions should stay.

Sorry. Not me. I'd have to say if we have to increasing times (then how about 1 point / second up to 90 second, 2 p/s afterwards. Personally, I would like to see 1 point / second the entire game or 2 p/s the entire game, but I can understand if you want to increase the penalty throughout the game.

The problem with that is the googlers will still win. The expert is 2 points per second, it doesn't nullify them.

Is there a way to see how you did on the last game when there's currently no game running?

I guess we're just equally curious about our previous results. Either that, or we're both overlooking some very obvious way of getting to those results!

Would it "work" (and I don't mean this as a 'cheat' just as an idea to save having to tinker with the whole system) if we "swapped" questions? When one is refused because it says the player has submitted it previously, but it's the system catching it by accident, could someone else submit that Q?
People could get together and swap a Q each if that makes sense?
Or is this a really bad idea...
I have 2 so far rejected for being too difficult and it would be nice to see them find a home.

I like the new game too, and I agree that 10 questions is probably the right amount for each session. However, I was wondering if the rating for the questions are skewing more on the difficult side because of the random nature of the game?

The difficulty ratings for other questions on FT are largely based on plays on quizzes, and I think that most members play quizzes on topics that they know something about, or in which they have an interest at least. Even for the GC and most of the hourlies, the questions are grouped into the the main categories on FT, so most people would play the areas that they can answer, unless you're playing in hardcore mode.

To use myself as an example, I wouldn't normally play Video Games or Sports because I probably wouldn't be able to answer even the simplest questions in these categories.

The new game works slightly differently, in that you don't have a choice in the category of questions for each round. Terry has stated that the questions being submitted for QQ are still too difficult, but I suspect that the difficulty rating would change quite dramatically if people could choose the categories they wanted to play.

If the idea for the QQ is to generate more questions which the average person (i.e. the ubiquitous next door neighbour) can answer, then that's fine. It's just going to get tougher and tougher to come up with interesting, original and easy questions that haven't already been asked on FT.

Just my 2 cents. Sorry if I'm not making much sense - I had a rather huge lunch and I think all the blood is being diverted from my brain to help in the digestion process!

And you don't have a choice in the daily game, the mixed game, much of the GC, easy/hard game, etc either.

The method for determining difficulty in the new player game is actually far superior to the "in-quiz" method that is normally used for precisely the opposite reasons that you mentioned above.

Most daily games are NOT niche-topic selecting. They are general games where players are expected to have a more general knowledge.

Huh? There's no winning or losing in that game... I don't remember how many I got right but even if I did, I was sound asleep when the 6-hour game period was over, so there was no way of knowing my final rank.
