The Answer problem has been solved for me. Thanks.

Now, if I could just use those Answers to get that pesky Achievement Badge...

I'm very surprised and pleased that I managed to get two questions into the current Top 20. I'm just standing on the shoulder of giants.

Happy Trivia!

Mousing over the answers on the top 20 question list is now working for IE7. Thanks Terry!

Just curious: Approximately how long does it take from when a question is accepted to when it gets into the game?

Funtrivia policy is that both single or double quotation marks are OK.

I've been marking for errors anywhere in the question - question, answer options, and interesting info.

I use both. My totally unscientific method means I often use singles, but doubles if there is an apostrophe in the title.
For example: "Bishop Cody's Last Request" looks better than 'Bishop Cody's Last Request'.

Does this mean I've gone all American?

Yippee! I finally got a question on the new Star Trek movie right, after I was able to go and see it at the weekend. St. Ives was deemed to small to have the movie when it opened nationally. Oh and I spotted an oxymoron in the film, when Kirk and Scotty beam aboard the Enterprise and Scotty is being flushed down the tube, there is a sign which says "Inert Reactant!" Terminator Salvation was just as silly. Human society totally destroyed and they perform a heart transplant on John Connor in a tent! Just one question, where are they going to find any anti-rejection drugs.

No, darksplash, I'd say you have gone all Canadian I tend to use a similar method, and take spelling from both sides of the ocean. Don't think I'm the only one either.

You are not the only one, Liz, my grammar and spelling usages are a hybrid of British and American as well I tend to do things like add the U into colour and favourite and the like, but use -ize endings instead of -ise.

(sorry Starlord, can't resist) Yep, heart transplants in tents are just as realistic as intelligent robots blowing up the world and traveling through time. Gotta suspend all disbelief for sci-fi, can't pick and choose... I say it was a special Terminator-enhanced heart anyway, works for me.

(ahem, okay, lame attempt to get back on topic) I was thrilled to see one of my questions in the game today! That was really neat.

Good, bad, easy or hard doesn't really matter, I'll play the game anyways. It is nice to get interesting questions even if I get them wrong and will mark them as good.

And a lot of us Aussies do the same as you Canadians. I actually think it's great to be 'in the middle' as such, because we can choose what we like and always argue it's 'correct'!

Personally I like 'English' spelling, in general, but my use of punctuation is a little floating. My own possibly idiosyncratic use of single and double quotes is: always double quotes for direct speech; usually double quotes for titles (single if they occur within direct speech I guess); and in 'general' writing (as just then), double if it's something someone's said or a 'real' thing, single if it's more a figure of speech or perception.

I am thoroughly enjoying the new questions, although I do find a rather high percentage obscure.

The only way I'll get 10 is by having 10 of my own questions in one quiz, and even then it's not a certainty as I have been known to get my own questions wrong lol

Is the 500 QQ badge still availible?
I remember reading that it was to be changed to 200.
Then I see that it doesn't appear on the new game page anymore.
But it's on the buzz as an availible badge to win.

What's the situation?

Are you chanelling me chicky? I said those exact words! (Or am I chanelling you?...)
I think the obscurity thing is OK, even though it's making it so hard to get that Achievement Badge - that was sort of the point of this game, to sort the new questions out for which hourly/daily game pools they end up in. Some of the questions are making me so jealous that I didn't think of them too

Are you there Rowena? lol

I love these new questions, am learning lots of new things. Some of the questions are really good! Am a bit fed up of baseball though! I am trying to do easier questions as some of mine have been obscure, due to their being UK related.

I think the few US sports questions I've seen are better than average as "sports" questions go, but I don't like them in these quizzes, generally. I find it difficult to rate them better than average because of that.

I find I often forget to rate the questions and I go straight to the standings page. Then I remember, do a browser "back" and rate the questions. It seems when I do so, I don't get an indication of any bonus points. Is it too late at that point?

No, there will be no new badges for "accepted questions". There will be at least one (and likely more over time) new badge for "X number of well rated questions".

That rewards what we want: well received questions. It also acknowledges that the question writing itself is really a sub-game... a challenge of its own.

I just have to decide what the criteria are for "good question quest question".

I'm thinking questions that meet either of the following:

a) 65% - 95% accuracy and 0.20 rating or higher, or,
b) any % accuracy but a rating of 0.40 or higher.

(a) rewards questions that we can use for sure in most hourly/daily games. (b) rewards difficult questions that everyone rated highly anyway.

I must say that I'm still struggling to decide how to rate questions in this game.

Could a thread be raised with accepted observations related to rating a question ?

Thanks

Personally I am rating them based on how interesting or original the question is. If I want to read the interesting info or having read it I learned something from it then it gets a good from me.

If I couldn't care less about the answer or what the interesting info has to say then it gets a poor.

Everything else gets average. Difficulty doesn't come into it at all.

Agree totally with you snowman - that's exactly the criteria I use!

The one thing I do like about this game is that we don't know until AFTER we have rated a question, who actually wrote it - which prevents any blatant favouritism prevalent on quiz ratings.

I use about the same criteria as Snowman. If I personally couldn't care less about the question, but can see that many other people might, I'll give it an average rather than a poor. Some unusual sporting feat, for example.

That's precisely the intent.

We already know the difficulty based on people's scores. We want to know whether you find the question interesting/entertaining/worth your time or not.

In my opinion based on that criteria Terry, I would say the questions so far are about 70/30 in favour of interesting.
Again, in MY opinion, there have been one or two that have been mind-numbingly boring, and several that I have thought "Wow - that's interesting, I didn't know that"

Could it be that the "My questions: rated" page is not updating any more? In spite of over 20 unrated questions, nothing has changed on my list in the last 36 hours and I can't believe that none of my questions ever made it into the pool lately.
