I am thinking specifically of an Alger Hiss question which was poorly worded, but in my opinion an interesting q nonetheless.
You mean like where he's referred to as "Hess" in the II?!
Don't worry Ing, there's a far more glaring "mistaken identity in the II" out there... and no I am not going to say whodunnit lol, I'm sure they will know by now anyway since "everyone" can see it who cares to look, and there's nothing the author can actually do about it at this stage. It's a great question regardless, ine of the nicest ones I've seen so far, and once the name's fixed will be even better
I'll be looking out for it now Rowena! And happy birthday , I wondered what the cake was about!

Ta (oo apparently that post already exists! I shall say something else too...) Two more of my questions have gone into the game now, they are moving along, and some of the ones that had only a few plays have been round again and gotten some more Hopefully *the two* won't be long now... (you watch, people will hate them lol, or they'll be totally averagely mediocre...)

I know Ing! People persist in having their opinions! I do still think this new rating system is a great idea though - two of mine are "in the red" of negative atm, (gulp) but thinking about it, I can see why it's worked out like that, and one I thought would join them (similar TV question) is actually average, so better than I thought which is always nice. I like it when I've rated a question as very good and it turns out to be someone whose quizzes I've enjoyed too, once the writers are revealed. This game is most definitely one of Terry's best ideas yet!

Why is it I have a feeling that the 'men in white coats' are hovering in the background to cart several of us away? hehehehe I too am pleased to know however, that I am not the only one having a 'rating watching obsession' on this game! I'm a Brit living in a 'foreign land' so I download my favourite Brit TV from a torrent site - I currently have 17 unseen episodes of 'Coronation street', and 12 unseen episodes of 'Eastenders' - totally unheard of prior to the advent of this game! Terry - have you ever thought of running for president - I reckon you could rule the world very nicely! You've certainly captured a lot of people with this game !

I understand that the new questions are to be American-centric, but I think the editors need to give Americans a bit of credit. The ones who play on this site are undoubtedly more globally-aware than the average American. I think we can handle questions on people/subjects beyond our borders. Following what Terry said the other day about writing sports questions, I thought I would submit a couple – one I wasn’t sure would make it, but the other I thought was bound to get it. I was wrong – the one that ended up being rejected was on the Flying Finn, Paavo Nurmi – one of the greatest Olympians of all time. Just this year, CNN had him on the list of the top twelve athletes of all time: http://www.cnn.com/2009/HEALTH/02/26/greatest.athletes/index.htmlMaybe not everyone has heard of him, but they should – that’s sort of why we play trivia here – to learn new things and to test our knowledge. And I thought I worded the question and answers to make it easy to pick the correct answer even if you didn’t know who he was. I’ll try rewording it and submitting it again, but I think to reject a question on a sporting legend as being too obscure or specific is a bit insulting to Americans.

I stayed up late to do this most recent set, and got the exact same questions I had earlier Would have been lovely if I could have remembered all 10 answers!

Happy Birthday, Row! Now that more of my questions are entering the pool and getting rated, I'm beginning to realise a few things: - It's relatively easy to write an easy question that 60-90% of players can answer, which ends up getting average ratings. - With a little more effort, it's not too hard to come up with an obscure question which 10-30% can answer, which ends up getting good ratings. - However, it's another thing altogether writing an easy question that ends up being rated "good". I guess if most players can answer the question, it's hard to react with anythng more than a "ho hum", unless the interesting info or the question itself is exceptionally well-written. Is everyone else noticing the same thing? And while we're at it, what would you expect or like to see in an easy question to set it apart in your mind from the other easy questions? Someone in this or another thread has said it before, but it bears repeating - writing questions for this new game may be even more challenging than writing an entire quiz!

Same thing happened to me. Luckily, I remembered all my answers. I only missed 1 before, though.

We are constantly being told that this is a site with a GLOBAL membership - therefore this game needs more GLOBAL questions - why not let the MEMBERS decide what is obscure and what isn't. The percentage of correct answers will prove whether a question is obscure or not!
I thought this was what was happening, but I'm obviously wrong as since the rules have been 'relaxed' I've had two Qs rejected as being too obscure etc. They were both in the same category and within a few hours of each other, so I wonder if individual Eds are still being a little too quick to hit the reject button (and I add that up until that point each of the 15 or so Qs I'd submitted in any cat - including the one in question - had been accepted first time. )
One of them I accept might have been a bit too 'cute' - not obscure or difficult, too easy if anything, in fact exactly the kind of question I'd expect in the fabled "pub quiz." The other might have been awkwardly worded (in which case reject it for that if you must) but it was about current players in the South African Cricket team, how can that be too obscure? (and no, the cat wasn't sport )

Someone in this or another thread has said it before, but it bears repeating - writing questions for this new game may be even more challenging than writing an entire quiz!
Mine rate all over the place, the lowest 'goodness' being 0.19 with 48% accuracy, the highest at 0.48/70%, the 'hardest' at 33%/0.3, yet one at 0.33/81%, and the 'easiest' at 93%/0.44.
Taking all that into account (and also my personal feelings/tastes), I would say that it is definitely the II that makes all the difference, with the incorrect answers also being very important. For example, the 93%/0.44 is about dental anaesthetics, on the surface not an easy or terribly interesting subject. But the wrong answers are so obviously wrong, and the II is (I modestly suggest! ) informative/amusing enough to make it both easy and fairly interesting. This also answers your question, jmorrow, on what makes the difference for me between an 'oh yeah' easy Q and a 'yeah cool' one.
That said, I've been really surprised at some of the results I'm seeing with my Qs (obviously the only ones I can talk about in detail) - the most 'popular' being one which to me was just a throw-away. Again I think the II probably made the difference.
Then I'm probably not the best person to comment, as I regularly see Qs I've rated as 'poor' come up in the top 20 most popular recent!
