I think I liked the more difficult questions better, I won three sets with those and nothing since, LOL.

However, I think some of the questions are better now although some are still getting through with, for example, little or, in one case, no interesting info.

Have I just missed it, or is there no place to specify what the "minor fix needed" is? I found a question with a grammatical error, which the question author may not be aware of - that is, it might look fine to him. And, on that note, who sees that the question needs a fix - editors, or the author, or both? Who's responsible for seeing that the problem is dealt with?

I'd like the know the same thing as agony. One of my questions that has been rated has a small typo in it that I'd like to fix, but if anyone has reported it as needing a small fix, I haven't gotten any notices...

Also, I'd like to add a bit to another question of mine that has been rated. In retrospect, it's not a great question (in the way that I have asked it). It's been rated as 'good', because it's interesting, but I'd like to fix it up a bit and add a hint or two that will give it a higher % answering correctly.

I am getting a lot of the same authors too Rowena. I think that is because a bulk of the earlier questions came from a smaller group of authors. Still waiting to see one of mine get rated.

Makes statistical sense that those with the most questions accepted should be turning up the most, but I'm beginning to get a little paranoid! I've had 13 Qs accepted, and only one has been rated, and that was in the first or second round, ie before the 'proper' ratings were in place.

Am I just being impatient , or could there be a glitch?

(It's hard to write more Qs when you haven't had the feedback, I don't know if I'm on the right track or not... )

The ones that I had rated the first day are still showing the exact same ratings, and none of the others (all two that I know of for certain as having been played lol) have showed up on the rated list.
Is this "right"? or should they be changing? And will the others show up eventually?
It was such fun watching them update etc

Edit to say: Some of them have updated now, they're "going through" as the sets change It is nice to see that the ratings bear no relation to the difficulty still

I'm a little peeved to have had a question rejected for being 'Far too obscure for a global membership'
It was a question that the average 10 year old Brit would have answered correctly ......

I have had questions with a powerful American bias that may as well have been written in Chinese, as they were OBSCURE - to ME and every other non American!

Plus there have been science questions that are university graduate level - how are THEY 'suitable' for a global membership of all ages?

I had one come back as "far too obscure" when it's even been parodied on the Simpsons... I think Mutchisman's idea of having them all (subject to the actual grammar/legibility type rules of course) accepted and using the ratings to weed them out is a good one.
There was another of mine that was very very slightly altered, and I know the editor must have been American (or not from the UK perhaps I should say) as the change makes it "wrong" to a Brit now - not factually or anything, just one of those "ew - rephrase that" things, a difference in the expression of a name for something that differs between "here and there".
We can't expect the editors to know every last thing, and they're having to make speedy judgement calls on these questions; getting them online as fast as they can cannot be easy - if all they had to do was a spelling/grammar/major boo boo check we could all share the task of "sorting" via the new game ratings.
In the ordinary way of things, quizzes go online without being checked for the actual facts as such (unless something is glaring or that editor does actually KNOW it's wrong) and the correction note system sorts it out as needed afterwards. This could be similar but for difficulty as well as facts.

I am with all who think that the obscurity of a question should be for the quiz takers to sort out.

Also agree that authors should not be in a rush to post questions.

I am not one who needs an explanation for every rejected question of mine. Though if one of my questions is rewritten before it gets added to the queue, more then just punctuation or spelling, I would like to hear from the Editor. At the very least for future reference when writing a question for that category.

Why has your question been changed to include a spelling mistake Rowena?

I thought spelling mistakes were not allowed ..............

Yet ANOTHER blatant example of the powerful American bias on this site!

Quite frankly I find it insulting to all of us authors who are non American.

Especially those of us who speak the QUEENS ENGLISH.

I came up with the incredibly ungainly 'pleb[e]ian' as an attempt to cover all bases. If the English and Americans think it's so tough, imagine the angst for us poor little colonials and ESL (ie English as a Second Language) speakers who could go either way and have to decide!

I think those on the site are very familiar with the (o) (ou) differences and probably don't even notice them when reading a question. I would be irked as you are Rowena.

This thread when on topic has been great for everyone involved.

I was wondering about how the (o) (ou) could change things for those that English is a second language. Does the (o) (ou) matter much when translating?

Most Europeans are taught British English, and of course many also speak French so they are accustomed to the inclusion of the 'u'. Much of Asia also uses British English, though the Japanese are probably more familiar with the US version. I'm not sure about China. British English is also more prevalent in Africa. In fact, of all our former colonies, only the USA made a fuss about the 'u'; removing it was of course a deliberate act - I'm sure I've read that in an FT question somewhere, lol.

Of course, of all the "former colonies", the US had to have an actual war to gain independence.

I've seen plenty of questions in the various daily and hourly quizzes about US subjects that have UK spellings in the text. Some how asking about one's "favourite" American TV show seems a bit preposterous! (But maybe that's because the good US sitcoms are usually ideas stolen from the Brits?!)

I wonder if it's because I used the word candy instead of sweeties or sweets. I figured 'everyone' knows what candy is, but sweets/sweeties might not be totally the same in different countries, and confuse people, especially reading the Q at speed. Candy is much more American (to me anyway) but..well... still irked lol (Irked is a lovely word isn't it )
Now if I'd put confectionary...

Actually, that was me. I'm not an editor but was putting some online to test out some stuff, and changed it just in case the editors had a policy to keep spellings consistent. Thankfully they don't. In fact, it appears that the official policy has always been to keep different spelling untouched, as long as the author is consistent him/herself. As an original Australian/Canadian, I actually prefer British spelling myself!

I can gladly change your question back. Which one is it?

Terry,

There are some questions I am getting in the new game, which I have gotten in hourly games on the site.

Can there be a box for, I have seen this question before?

If the person knows where the question is on the site, a box to provide a link to that question?

My computer just froze so I couldn't rate , but am I the only one who is getting sick of getting Qs about the order of books in the Bible? I read both Testaments cover-to-cover less than a year ago and I can remember a lot of stuff, but cheese!

I thought just the question was similiar, but a quick check led me to more.

Link to original question

http://www.funtrivia.com/trivia-quiz/Hobbies/All-About-KFC-in-America-45232.html

How many herbs and spices are in the original chicken?

Your Answer: 11

And of course the original chicken is the best. And for you dieters, have an original breast, pull the skin off and don't eat it!

Question from my recent New Question Game.

8. How many herbs and spices make up the secret blend used on Colonel Harland Sanders' most famous creation: his Original Recipe Kentucky Fried Chicken?

Your answer: 11
Colonel Harland Sanders first introduced the world to the taste of his Original Recipe Kentucky Fried Chicken in 1939. Featuring a secret blend of 11 herbs and spices, news of the Colonel's tasty chicken spread quickly, and by 1964 he had opened more than 600 Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurants. Today, security precautions protecting the Colonel's secret recipe would make even James Bond proud. It is locked away in a safe in Louisville, Kentucky, and only a handful of people have ever been allowed to view the recipe.

Entire interesting information was plagiarized from this website.

Actually if you click the back to Fast Food Trivia button, the entire question is plagerized.

I am seeing some other questions on that page that look familiar as well. The Jared Fogle question comes to mind.
