Yes, New Question Game *guarantees* that a player never sees the same question twice. Tricky stuff happening in the background

Ya know, after a certain period of time, it might make sense to stop updating the "correctness percent", since people will be getting duplicates - skewing the numbers!

Maybe Terry's already said/thought of that.

Or maybe have two ratings - a "total" (for all time) and an "initial" (first 500 plays or whatever).

So far, each question only seems to appear in 2 (possibly 3?) rounds of the game. After that the ratings don't change anymore, and more questions from the 'in waiting' list move through into the game sets. So I suppose as long as there are questions waiting, they won't be there long enough for "repeat memorising" to have more than a teeny effect.

The game doesn't even run if there aren't new questions for each player. Fortunately we have had a ton of questions so we've been able to run without interruption.

Is it possible Terry, that due to the perhaps unexpectedly high volume of new quiz submissions, the 'quiz run' may even be reduced to 2 hours?
The reason I ask, is because I have one of two accepted questions that has been 'in the queue' for several days now, and no doubt you are still recieving dozens of submissions daily?

Personally, I'm quite happy that this particular game runs at ALL, never mind reducing the length of time between games. I quite enjoy playing brand new q's (and I can't lie, would love to see one of mine at some point while playing lol) but can't see them ALL (nor would I expect to), since I can't very well play any games while at work.

I know folks are just as eager as I am to see their own questions asap, but isn't the "idea" of this game to be of benefit to the total site in the LONG run, rather than "just another badge to get done with and out of the way?". Seems to me that if the "reward" isn't instantaneous, that(hopefully) folks will use that time to write even MORE good questions than have been submitted already (I must say I am amazed by everyone's creativity and efforts in this game!) But, there's no special badge for being the "firstest/mostest in the shortest amount of time" and I seriously doubt that all possible badges for this wonderful new "concept game" will suddenly be removed - so, what's the hurry?

I've only sent about a dozen questions so far (mostly because I have trouble thinking up anything remotely worthy lol). If it takes me a year to get to 50, that's fine with me ... what's a few days wait in a queue? Last time I looked there were about 70 other badges to work on in the meantime : )

I think that 3 hours is fine. I have had some questions in the queue for quite a while now but I know they will eventually be used in the game. I like the anticipation when checking to see when a question has been used. It's very addictive. I find myself thinking of questions when shopping in Tesco or visiting friends and requesting a pen and paper lol

I'm channeling you again chicky lol - I arrived at someone's house the other day and the first thing I said was "can I have a pen and paper before I forget this great question?"

Hmm, I think I found a REALLY obscure bug which might have caused that... Just fixed it. Let me know if any of you ever see the same set twice from now on.

As a matter of interest, how are the questions for use selected? Are they selected at random or in date placed on line, or does it depend on the category?

I was just wondering, as patience is a virtue, which I am not very good at lol and I have rather a lot 'waiting' to go now.

Sigh, I shall just wait....

By date, with a randomized element. Oldest will generally appear first.

Just got 10 out of 10 for the first time, and I was so excited. I didn't look up any questions (actually, I never do on this new question game), but I didn't race through them either. I felt I had played at a rather fast pace for me. Imagine my dismay when I saw that my time was 93 second and that the achievement badge is given for 90 or faster. I don't know, that time seems awfully fast for an achievement badge. Even the GC in hardcore mode gives you 120 seconds to have your round count. It will probably take me forever to get 10 right again, but I think others would probably earn this badge more easily if the time were lengthened a bit for the achievement badge.

Ironically, my score was good enough to win the badge for best score for the set, but not for the achievement badge. I'm happy that I did that well, though.

It appears that guitargoddess has qualified for the new badge (congrats!), but has not had it awarded.

(Thanks )

I'm assuming it's an end-of-the-day badge.

Yeah, maybe - I forgot about those!

I was thinking it was one of those every-three-or-four-hour badges (or whatever they are).

Didn't want your good fortune rained upon!

Congrats GG! I always enjoy your questions in the new game - although I don't realise it's you until the final screen

Sorry to multi-task in this way, but I just noticed something and had to ask. Was a character limit recently introduced in the Question Quest for the answer field? As an example, if you try to enter the correct answer to the current top question from the "Top Rated Recent Questions", only about half of the answer fits in the field - the rest just gets cut off.

Has anyone else noticed this?

Yes, limits have been added to prevent essay answers, which we were starting to see. They don't work too well in timed games and I'd rather prevent long answers at the start rather than have editors reject them.

Congrats GG on a job well done! I actually don't have the code in yet to award your badge; I'll do that now

Doesn't look like the badge "fired" automagically.

dcpddc478 (congrats!) has had 50 qualifying questions since at least early yesterday for our second winner.

I seem to remember at one point, there was going to be a link to the authors of the New Questions so that we could send compliments. Is this still being pursued?

Prior to the new round of questions in the 'Question Quest', I had 40 questions rated. In the new round in my 'contributions rated', it is showing 3 with requisite elements to be placed.

I have checked the 'Question Question' challenge and it's only showing at 41, as opposed to 43.

Is it an error, or hasn't it been updated yet?
