I read two very disturbing stories today.

1. News.com story about Cadbury putting vegetable fat in chocolate. I believe this is only in Australia but perhaps they're just testing the market. Anyone tasted it?

and even more shocking is

2. The Age story about the new vegemite. I can't tell from the story if it's an additional vegemite or if it's a replacement. Oh dear God, let it be an addition!!!

In both cases you've got a well known and loved product. Why, oh why, would you change it?? I guess i would like more easily spreadable vegemite too, but not at the expense of the original vegemite.

Oh the horror.

I didn`t read your link Copago but I have been following this story for 2 weeks now and it appears that Kraft have added cheese to Vegemite. They have absolutely no plans to discontinue the original Vegemite. I think it`s an interesting idea as Vegemite and cheese have long been a favourite for many people.

Still on topic I guess.........Kentucky Fried Chicken in Australia has finally decided to change their greasy mess of chicken over to a canola and sunflower blend from palm oil, they have also decided to reduce the salt content by 10 percent. Those particular changes can only be an improvement, though I will always remember the feeling of their greasy chicken oozing palm oil down my chin with some sickening/Caligula type delight.

Phew! You've made my day. It was the first I'd heard about it today .. I must put the news on more often.

I'm with you on the Kentucky. I quite like the taste of it but seconds after it just makes me feel sick. Not sure if I will bother trying the new stuff - I'm sure I eat enough crap anyway! They do make the best chips though, I give them that.

So they are not removing the axle-grease base then?

Surely any alterations to the recipe for Vegemite has to be an improvement? I will stick to the best yeast extract on the market, the ORIGINAL one. I accept no imposters.

Lol at your avatars, you guys are nuts!

Each to his own, agreed, but why anyone would willingly choose to eat Vegemite or Marmite is beyond me. I had Marmite once as a kid, and I still have the emotional scars......

Now I know that one Australian billboard advertising for Vegemite shows a sultry, scantily-dressed lady with the slogan "Spread it all over" but I really don't think your nocturnal activities are anything to do with us.

I've not seen either in stores around Dallas. And, no, I'll pass on both.

I think the cheese/vegemite combination is nice, but artificial cheese flavour will never replace the use of real cheese with vegemite.

I need a vegemite avatar...Or cadbury. Chocolate is good.

Sara wanted to pinch your can of soup too and replace it with Marmite!

All I do know is that I shudder to think of the mischief two certain individuals get up to when in each others company on a small island, (probably rampaging around with modified aerosol cans filled with Marmite.)

You lot really have a dim view of me, just because when with Jill (Copago) we wore silly hats and waved bars of Toblerone in the middle of London, then with Sara I molested a nice looking elderly gentleman in town then Sara and I had a race on mobility scooters. With Mada all we did was cuddle a policeman. Anyone would think that I am a bad influence on people.

Mischievous little girls grow up to be mischievous women, don't we?

Sue, I have a feeling you have the ability to change EVERYBODY'S avatar into Marmite for a day. Now, that would be funny!

Of course those who hadn't seen this thread could get a tad disgruntled...

Only by 20 years, Marmite started in 1902, and Vegemite in 1922.

They had to GIVE Vegemite away at first to wean them of Marmite, a bit like some drug dealers give freebies in order to get people hooked. They gave it away with cheese products from that manufacturer.

That is true, Mrs Ren suggested it but I was better behaved than that. Also I wasn't sure if everyone had their avatar locations backed up, I knew that Jillian would have her little tiger boy safe and sound.

Forgive me for saying, but I don't think Cadbury's chocolate could get any worse than it already is. Although I love their Caramello Koala's, I find the chocolate bars truly awful.

Oh Leau! I love UK-made Cadbury's milk chocolate, then that is what I had as a child so my palate is used to it. I love other chocolates but will always have a soft spot for Cadbury's. I am not sure that the recipe is the same in other parts of the world even when the name is the same.

I would imagine if you have been raised with some of the continental chocolates such as the Belgium ones then Cadbury's isn't going to taste right for you.

You're right, it probably does have to do with the sort of chocolate I was brought up with (ie. Dutch, German and Belgium chocolate). I've tried both English and Australian Cadbury and I just can't make myself eat it. The taste just isn't right (it is too "buttery") and it reminds me of the very very cheap chocolate I used to get every now and then when I was a kid.
