I submitted a question a couple days back and it was rejected because there was issues with dates in the interesting information section. The issues being the information would become stale. I can understand that.

I submitted a different version of the question today that has no date information in it at all. It was rejected because "* Duplicate / Repeat Question. You or another player has already asked this, or something VERY similar."

I can't imagine that in a couple days someone else has asked the same question which wasn't anywhere on the site previously and didn't show up in the list of similar questions.

I guess my actual question is if one of our questions is rejected are we not allowed to take the feedback, reform the question, and submit it again?

Thanks

Did you DELETE the reject from your list of rejects? If not, it's still in the database .......

The previous question? Yes.
The most recent submission? no, not yet.

If the question itself is still worded exactly the same, the database checker "thing" sees it as a duplicate too, even though it's you submitting it again. You need to rephrase it somewhat.

It's not still worded exactly the same. I didn't save the previous wording, but i know i didn't use the same phrasing.

Dunno then
I had one come back for changes and it worked once I reworded it. I think I had deleted it from the "recently rejected" list too though, but I'm not certain as it was a while ago.

I also find it funny that one of my questions was rejected because the answer was a specific year. Yet a question I just had in the new question quiz the answers were all years. I was told not to submit them because players find them "boring". lol

Or more to the point, it depends whether the EDITOR finds your question boring .....

That's fine. At least put that then...rather than generalizing that all date questions are boring so when I see one later that has the same format I know that question is apparently really interesting.

In addition to the editor, it can depend on the category too; at least it does for quizzes, I would assume the criteria that the editors are looking at in the Question Quest are similar to the quiz category guidelines. For example, a question that asks for a specific year might be fair game in History but asking what year a particular movie came out or something is a lot more boring.

It was a history question.

But no worries. I've got one question accepted for the badgelet so I won't bother submitting anymore.

The real reason for not allowing release date questions in Movies is that they vary from country to country, so that there is no one "correct" answer.

At least you get a response. I've entered 3 to 4 since the feature came up, and all my questions have been rejected, and I've never received a response on any of them. I think they just see my questions and automatically reject them because a second quiz I was working on, I deleted. I know it's a faux pas to delete a quiz but it wasn't the quiz I initially wanted and why should I have a quiz on my page that I never wanted in the first place that's completely different from the one I did want? Also, I understand I may not be able to ever make another quiz again because of that, and that's fine, but I should at least be able to enter questions, and for them to be accepted.

You CAN enter questions AND have them accepted - if they are good enough.

I am an experienced QUIZ author, and I have had at least 4 of these mini questions rejected for one reason or another - so don't get paranoid about it, just write a GOOD question

I think all of them should be accepted except those that break rules of the website (etc.,) because you have a grading system for those questions where people taking that particular "tournament" can point out the errors explicitly, and one can correct accordingly. Nothing against the Editors on this website but they don't exactly do that. They say, "You have errors. You must fix them before it can be submitted." (I'm speaking on the quizzes since I've never received a comment back from any question I've entered as of yet). Not everyone who wishes to make quizzes, or questions knows English grammar perfectly, or just about.

Now, I'm not stating that there isn't any responsibility of those of us who wish to attempt and/or create a quiz. There is. But what people need to realize is that what we write, we see no errors, and unless they explicitly point them out, we'll never see the errors they say are there.

I sympathise with, and have great respect for, any potential or existing author whose first language isn't English.
I am British, living in France, and I speak French very well, but if I was asked to write a QUIZ in French, it would be a disaster!

I really don't know what to suggest to help you at least get a question accepted, because in all fairness, one cannot expect the editors to give lessons in English grammar, punctuation, spelling, etc

Questions are looked at on their merits. Personally, I tend to look at the question and not even notice who wrote it - the name is not right in the editor's face, you have to look for it.

And, although the editors know most of the regular experienced authors, we don't really know all about every single person who's ever submitted a quiz. When looking at a quiz we see the quiz history, but the single questions are a slightly different system.

There should be some explanation of why the question was rejected - either a personal note, or a generic message. I don't think the system will even let us reject without giving some reason.

It has never been our policy to point out specific spelling or grammatical errors - it's the author's responsibility to see that the quiz follows basic rules of English. Most people have access to a spellcheck. We suggest that if your English skills are not what they should be, you get a friend or teacher to help you.

I have never received a reply for any question I've submitted minus the one I recently submitted since I just submitted in the past two days, I'm not counting it at this time.

I've had two questions rejected without any explanation as to why.

Well, my recent question was rejected, and is listed on that page, but, the other questions I submitted are not listed on that page (and I don't ever remember seeing them there before, I do check periodically after posting a question).

Oh well. Guess I should try again.

Well, just entered another one. This time in literature, and hopefully it'll be accepted.

Nammage, I have just checked the contributions list and you have 2 questions accepted. If you check in the 'my contributions not yet rated', they may well be there in the 'waiting to be played'. Hope this helps.

If they were accepted then why don't I have the mini-badge that says they were accepted?

I wish this link was easier to find:

http://www.funtrivia.com/questionpost_me2.cfm

(this link may only work for me, sorry)

However, those two were before this "challenge" and "mini-badge" was around. Perhaps that's why I do not have the badge because it was before the challenge even existed?

[Edit]

By the by, the page above isn't the one I periodically checked, there's another one where it shows a list of those rejected (which my latest one is on) and those accepted; perhaps those accepted should be on that list: http://www.funtrivia.com/questionpost_me.cfm

It's all a whirlwind.

I apologize to anyone that, if it seems, I was laying blame anywhere; wasn't really my intention, if so.

However, since I do have 2 accepted, I should have the mini-badge.

You are right on both counts my friend.

The link you posted will indeed take anyone who clicks on it to their OWN listings.

The 'We all have questions" badglet is not back dated, it is awarded for a NEW accepted submission.
