In every movie I`ve ever watched I`ve only ever seen American Indians using rifles. Did they make use of revolvers in everyday life?

Without doing any research, Roos, I'd guess 'not much'.
Sioux braves were proud of their ability to use deftly shaped spears and small clubs while on horseback. Later on, as the Europeans settled and brought their weapons with them, rifles were either taken from them as spoils in battle, stolen or even sold to the tribes by unscrupulous 'Indian agents' many of whom were criminals looking for a job.
From what bits and pieces I've gathered over the years-working in a gun museum and also watching the late David Carradine host Wild West Tech, it seems they simply preferred rifles. I can only guess. Maybe somebody else can expound in depth for you.

I have vague memories of some prominent indian being imprisoned & escapting with a smuggled revolver.
Another account I read sugested that revolvers were not as widely worn as the films suggest.

From what I have read about our Native Americans, I would say that they preferred the long rifle to a pistol because they used firearms to hunt big game animals. The pistol would have been a novelty, generally useless because they travelled with a minimum of "luggage." Most Indians used a travois to drag their belongings behind a horse when moving from place to place (summer camp to winter camp).
The less weight, the better.
