Really enjoyed 2nd test England vs Australia. Superb commentary on five live... despite that though, I really wish that I could have been watching it. Still won't subscribe to Sky Sports though, as I see at least one other person won't either! Good for you!

Free to air here in Australia, and on pay tv. I have an issue with teams proclaiming national representation selling the rights to their events to pay tv. If they are Australia's team or England's team then they really shouldn't be able to sell off the national spirit.

Pieterson out for the rest of the series I here. Thats a shame, no really.
THey're starting to talk up Watson to replace Hughes at the top of the order. Not a good idea I dont think. If we dont bat first we'll be a batsman down for our first innings!

I was happy enough with the England win, Australia's bowlers didn't threaten enough and England's batsmen took advantage of it. Flintoff's bowling in that last innings was brutal.

Re Watson, how does this sound? - Open with Watson and Katich (which gives you an extra bowler), and bring in Manou to w/keep, batting at 8 or 9. Taht way, you keep your bowling stocks (Manou replaces any bowler you want), and it also gives you the luxury of a REAL wicketkeeper, as well as having Haddin's batting.

Well, Shane Watson is now based in NSW, so it's no big deal!

And I wish Fox would get rid of Merv .. it's enough to switch over to SBS.

This from Australian legend Dean Jones on TMS: "Phil Hughes announcing he's been dropped on Twitter is just wrong, he needs a good foot up the backside for that. He's broken a team rule and he's let the opposition know what's happened before the game's started.

oops

Even with Merv on the screen they still told us via twitter that Hughes was out.

I tried SBS. Can't do it. McGill umms and ahhhs more than a league player.

Not looking hopeful for play anytime soon.

As regards Manou, Fate seems to have listened to you! And Watson has certainly risen to the occasion so far. Unfortunately, we're probably in for quite a bit of rain in Birmingham over the next few days.

Told ya .. I'm staying up and it's boring.
Do I go to bed now and have nightmares of Anderson and Flintoff getting hat-tricks in successive overs? ;p

Who'd have thought it would turn out this way? I knew Australia wouldn't win the final Test (they never won a decisive final Ashes Test in over 70 years!), but didn't expect England to be in with a chance either

"Nice" to note that 13 of the 15 New Zealand players on tour to Sri Lanka are down with food poisoning! Wonder what the remaining two players ate?

Baked beans? Oh wait - that was Warne.

I can not believe that Ponting goes and gets himself run out. I bet he's chucking stuff in the dressing room right now.

Clarke gone now too - I think that decision could have gone either way.

Will it finish today or tomorrow?

This was a strange series. I mean, if I had to pick a representative side from both squads, I'd have Strauss opening with Katich, Ponting at 3, then either of Trott/Hussey/Watson at 4 with Clarke and North at 5 and 6. So 4 and possibly 5 of the top 6 would be Aussies.

Hilfenhaus and Siddle both proved they have much to offer, Haddin is a typical aggressive batsman/keeper and Johnson has the potential to achieve much more.

Yet the whole series turned on Panesar's batting at Cardiff and Flintoff's run out of Ponting.

And Ponting calling the toss wrong.

Congratulations to England.

Congratulations to Hussey too...at last.

The finger pointing will commence....Now

Australian selectors! Who selects them and how do I apply for a position. They've been getting it wrong for years and only due to awesome depth have they got away with it. It really has to end.

Ricky's captaincy needs looking at too. He was fine when he had Boof Lehmann and co. whispering in his ear but on his own....
He's a great player and Australia won't drop him as captain. I like that the captaincy in Aussie cricket has a stable recent history, but maybe it's time for a change.
Of course on paper Ponting's record as captain is supreme, but on paper Australia should also have dominated that series.
