Just a FYI:

After many months of deliberations with the editors and careful considerations, we have decided that we will be awarding points for the authoring of quizzes.

In the old days players didn't have points or levels to think about. No one ever had to make the decision of "do I climb the ladder, or do I write a quiz?", "Do I play the hourly game, or do I write a quiz?". We don't believe that such a decision should ever be made. You should be able to write a quiz and earn a fair number of points from doing it. No one who WANTS to write a quiz should be discouraged from doing so because they will earn no points doing so.

Final details will be announced soon, but here is the current thinking:

- There will be a maximum # of points that can be earned from quiz authoring in a month to 4 or 5 quizzes that go online. This will discourage the rapid submitting of sub-par quizzes and encourage authors to carefully consider their contributions.

- Quiz points per quiz are still being discussed, but we have decided that a single set number will be used regardless of # of questions, as we don't want players creating filler or garbage questions just to create larger quizzes. The current range of thought is a number somewhere between 1000 and 2000 points per quiz.

- Points awarded from quiz authoring will NOT go into daily totals, class total, endurance, brain, etc totals. They get added directly on top of your total score.

- [A MAYBE BONUS CARROT]: Players will earn a very small number of token "brains" for the time that they took out of their day to author their carefully thought-out quiz if the quiz went online with 1 or fewer editor rejections from when it was created.

- Authors marked with the editor "Green Screen" that suggests their prior submissions have been sub-par will receive half points until their quality of submissions improves. Again, we want to discourage poor submissions and offer an incentive for being more careful.

- Points WILL be retroactive. Every quiz on the site will be back-awarded full points (regardless of green screen and when they went online, even if more than 5 in a month). For some players, this will result in a considerable increase in total points and the associated levels.

[Please be aware that the "details" above are VERY rough, so please don't copy/paste them off this board. We are still discussing all sorts of minor modifications to this to encourage quality submissions.]

Thanks Terry.

Hypothetically, if a quiz author were to currently have a green screen, would that effect all of the retroactive points they received.

Green screen and the timing in which the quizzes were submitted would be ignored for retroactive points.

Awesome! Let's see, 131 quizzes, 1,000, whoa! That's 131,000 more points! Sweet! lol.

And it will be nice to have it retroactive, because I KNOW I have had the green screen in the past, and 10-15 quizzes online in a month before. I have even had 2 in a day go online before. One every day for weeks at a time... ;-) It will be nice to see points awarded for my efforts.

But even 1,000 points for a 10 question quiz, won't that get people to send garbage through, just to earn points? I don't think offering carrots or only half points will solve this problem. :-(

Maybe it could be possible that if someone does submit consistently poor quizzes, with garbage and fillers - that they would have the right to score points for quizzes suspended for say...3 months or some other arbitrary time period.

Or not at all until their quiz is at least par.

And, oh my gosh, I almost fainted this morning! I got an editor's choice for one of my quizzes! Thanks, Terry! I am in total shock that "the boss" (and I don't mean Bruce Springsteen) chose one of my quizzes that has been online for over a year! I am off to thank my team for writing such excellent questions. ;-) Thanks team members who read the message boards!

Along with this point change, I have also added considerable safeguards against "submitted junk". Any author who tries to submit sub-par quizzes in an attempt to earn points will quickly find their ability to write quizzes cut off.

What is a 'green screen' please?

Love the idea of this Terry! Thank you!My latest quiz, is 'on hold' at the moment, due to all the other wonderful new things on the site, which have distracted me lol I also have a quiz in my head to research too. There aren't enough hours in the day at the moment!

I shall have to introduce time management to my trivia hours.

Demurechicky, if you don't know what a green screen is, you submit good quizzes. When an author has a lot of correction notices on his/her quizzes, they get a green screen saying their quizzes are not up to standards, and may result in a longer wait time because of it. :-) Even the best authors might have seen this. For instance, if you are a movies person, and have 50 movie quizzes online, and you then make two or three celebrities quizzes, you may make mistakes, and get a green screen because they aren't as good as your previous submissions. Sometimes it works out that way. ;-)

And yeah, that quiz is an editor's choice waiting to happen, like Snowman said. :-D lololololol! I love the questions. ;-)

Thanks for that Salami, I've never had a 'green screen'. But I have on occasion had a couple sent back more than once! The editors have been very patient with me, thank goodness!

Editors are always great to work with. Much better than a lot of people claim. Some people whine and moan about editors, but they have a lot of work they get done, and life OUTSIDE FunTrivia, and they should be commended for their wonderful work. Be glad you have not had a green screen, and have had a pleasant experience with the editors. Although, I don't see why it wouldn't be pleasant, because the editors are always so nice, and if you need help to figure out what exactly the correction is, or whatever, they are great to work with! They would be great employers to work with. :-)

Plagiarism is another way to earn the green screen - it's pretty much automatic for that!

That's true. And sometimes you can copy someone else's sources and not even realize it! Probably one of the toughest things about quiz writing. :-)
