am smiling at your "grimacing" blue damselfly Mags, the labrum really DOES look like teeth in that particular photo!

As for Martin's Moth (which is quite a nice name all by itself), I haven't looked it up. The wings aren't fully open and I can't see the antennae, but I think it is one of the Burnets (no, not Carol lol) - probably a six-spot.

Ahh, and I thought it was a dragonfly! What's the difference? No, no... I will look it up. (And I still think it was about to launch itself at me and bite me but good! )

Edited to add:

Ok, damselfly... eyes clearly separated, usually appearing to each side of the head; slender body; all wings similar in shape, and held closed rather than open; and unlike the dragonfly is closely related to the vampire family I knew it!

This lizard had a lucky escape, I so nearly stepped on it (accidentally of course). Don't ask me what it is, but if it's any help, this was near Lake Garda in Italy. I'd feel confident in saying that it's not a Kimodo Dragon. More than that, I don't know.

Mags: collapsing in laughter over the vampire comment lol

Paul: Are you SURE you're not a professional photographer in disguise?? Every one of the photos you have posted so far are exquisite.

Martin: your cute little lizard is an ANOLE (can't tell you which particular species it is however). Wonderful guys/gals, similar to geckos they eat LOADS of bugs that are annoying to humans. Many of them are able to change colour, rather like chameleons - so I'm VERRRA glad you didn't injure it : )

here's a much larger distant relative of Martin's "critter"...

I'm pretty sure that's a Cinnabar moth.

You're right, it is a Cinnabar moth. I looked it up at the time of taking the photo to see if I could identify it but the name had gone right out of my head. Well identified!

about that moth, for anyone who might be interested, here is a link to a cinnabar (which shows wings both closed and open).. scroll down to a little less than halfway down the page
http://www.dereila.ca/whispers/mothsA.html

and here is the one my brain connected incorrectly to on my random guess, a six point burnet with wings open
http://www.floralimages.co.uk/psix-sburnemh.htm

I only posted this because I think it's very interesting that here are two critters, both with STRIKING markings (well, for a moth anyway), in similar colours... yet the two are not even REMOTELY related genetically (yes I know I'm weird that I find this fascinating, you don't have to tell me lol) Thank you Martin, for giving me a "tangent" to dwell on instead of domestic duties LOL

Anyway, what I FORGOT to post was this underwhelming photo of native aquatic vegetation (in comparison to ren's lotus)... taken from my canoe..

Here's some more water, some rather brown vegetation, and a bridge!

I like those colours, sliz.

This is the hammock bridge I use to cross into town, which can be seen in the distance. Takes me 4 minutes to cross the bridge. It crosses the Rio Reventazón, a river used by white water rafters. It was getting a new paint job when this photo was taken.

On Christmas Day 2 years ago it rose 3 metres and flooded the banks due to heavy rains, scary stuff.

I like that bridge, Mags - not sure about seeing the river under my feet through that mesh, though! Here is another colourful crossing, the Alkaff Bridge in Singapore.

Wow, what a work of art! Great shot too lily, well done, love it!

Some others feel the same way about the hammock bridge too, lily, a bit scared to cross. I only get scared when I see women in spike stiletto heels crossing.

While we're on a bridge trip, here's a drawbridge. This is in the castle at the entrance to the town of Sirmione on Lake Garda, Italy.

(I will find a way to post all 500 pictures I took there! lol)

The famous swans of Bishop's Palace seem to be missing from your picture Zorba. Never mind, here's one that could be photoshopped in. (For those not in the know, there's a bell on the drawbridge which the mute swans which live on moat will ring when they want to be fed.)

Here's a different swan - a chainsaw carving overlooking the Avon River in Stratford (Ontario), celebrating the famous swans there.

(Taken a few years ago when I was visiting family in Stratford.)

Another river, this time the East River in New York. You can see Manhattan on the left & Roosevelt Island on the right. This was taken from the Roosevelt Island Tramway - a cable car link to the island - which runs parallel to the 59th Street Bridge (aka the Queensboro Bridge.)

That red sail jumped out at me, so here's a different kind of 'red sail'.

Tomatoes on sale, 2 kilos, or 4.4lbs, for 90 cents.
