can't have a sunset without a sunrise...taken while standing on our deck at dawn, this view is looking east from Alberta towards Saskatchewan. Our weather might be generally crappy for most of the year, but nothing beats prairie skies for "artistry"

Not as good as yours Jakeroo, but here is the sky at Porth Ysgaden, North Wales earlier in the year.

Also from North Wales and earlier this year, the hotel at Portmeirion with the sun shining through the trees.

I raise my hands & confess; it was a fluke! Totally. I didn't aim to get that effect, it was just 'there'! I ain't complaining though.

DotB: well now, I have to say that yours was more than "as good as" mine, since, looking at your photo, I'm sure you had MUCH better weather than we did that particular day ("red sky in the morning, sailor take warning" and all that lol)

Martin: "Spooky boootiful" picture there ... and ok, you can quit blushing now. I have a feeling that purple doesn't become you (although the photo certainly loves the colour - in fact you could have posted that one twice as there is a purple thread running here this week!)

Anyhoo, back to the "chain"... although not as spectacular as the last ... more sunbeams:

Something else with spoked wheels, a horse and carriage in Central Park, New York.

(Note the spooky headless horse.)

Roman centurion moves in for the kill outside the Amphitheatre in Verona. The poor tourist too engrossed in her mobile phone to see the danger. Note the authentic Roman rubbish bin, a convenient position to lay in ambush.

Although not in Rome, this is the Alcazaba and Roman Amphitheatre in Malaga, Spain.

It looks beautiful, Szabs. I would love to go there some day.

The stone used for building reminded me of the Great Wall of China.

A wall which, thankfully, didn't survive quite as long. A section of the Berlin Wall near the Potsdamer Platz which has been preserved as a reminder of darker days. Every other section tells the history of the wall & all the original graffiti is still there but has been added to by visitors who 'wuz there'.

Here is another piece of history, this is part of Whittington castle the tower keep and was originally built in the 12th century.

No image above, so talking of graffiti - this bus, in the Strzelecki Desert was apparently home to a rabbit catcher before being abandoned to the graffitists. It is a long way from anywhere, some three and half hours drive from Innamincka, so not sure what he did for water or other food!

Another bus that is going nowhere fast.

(I don't know about 'Save The Children', who's going to save the bus?)

My very first thought on seeing this bus was that I needed to paraphrase Gelett Burgess (often incorrectly attributed to Ogden Nash):

I never saw a blue-green bus,
I never hope to see one;
But I can tell you, anyhow,
I'd rather see than be one!

Can't help laughing, it really was the first thing I thought -- I've never seen a bus this color, not even in fiction.

It was a special paint job for our annual 'Children In Need' charity appeal, Jar. I've no idea whether it's used the year. If it keeps breaking down like that, I would imagine it isn't!

Mags, if you're referring to the palm tree shot, it was taken in the coastal city of Mangalore in India.

Great shot of the Great Wall!

Szabs: if all the bedrooms are spoken for, can I pitch a tent in the yard?

Zorba: all those dark horses with touches of scarlet remind me of the RCMP. Nice pic.

on to a chainlink ..
from the outside of a bus, to a picture taken from inside a bus.
Location: Puerto Plata, DR. Supposedly there are "rules of the road" but the citizens are notoriously bad drivers. I suspect that if they actually enforced the laws, at least 80% of drivers would be in jail lol.

Gives a new meaning to 'going out for a spin on the bike.'

Another shot taken on the move, this from a coach during the tour of Lake Garda. It looks as if we're going so fast that the tree & road sign are bending with the slipstream!
